As a retired mathematics teacher, I am rather bias. Public schools are a necessity as long as we have poor and underprivileged children. Sure you are going to have low performing schools, but you will also have many that are performing well above the national average. I have taught in both types. All one can do as a teacher is teach to the best of their ability and hope you reach the desired outcome.

Early public schools in this country were set up and funded and governed by the people in the community. Then government stepped in and public schools have not been the same.

I have absolutely no confidence that the majority of our public schools are able to give students a fair minded education. The bulk of them are nothing more than indoctrating stations for the liberal way of life.
