I don't trust the news media. Just turn on CNN. It's not about reporting the events but entertaining the audience. I agree with everyone who said a lottery winner's past and private life should remain private. Where are they getting this information? I guess anything recorded in a court of law is public information, but it's shameful that such matters have to be printed for the world to read. Maybe he doesn't care any more since he has so much money. I would be furious. He's not running for... [ More ]

Hi GameGrl,Sorry if I offended you. That was not my intent. I'm rather warped by nature and I was merely trying to be funny in my own warped, sarcastic way. I was trying to make a little joke about the way I told the story, my nickname, and apparently it didn't come across that way. I appologize.Regards,Jim

(Alluding to Stevie Wonder's song: GOTTA' FIND ME A PLACE IN THE SUN. ) Finally, two ideas pop up:1. Was his ticket a Quick Pick?2. How long had he been playing POWERBALL.

The media sensationalizes! to S-E-L-L!!!!!They bombard! I wish that ALL lotteries would allow winners to remain annonymous. Only the IRS needs the information. Yep, I could use a few hundred million to get out of poverty.. It seems to me by the indepth interview that the winner would have no problem taking care of the first child fom a previous marriage. He did, afterall, catch up on his payments...before he won the lottery.. Good Dad. Congrats to him and his family. Makes for an interesting story that way. :)End result- The guy behaved in a discretionary way that didnt jeopardize or place emphasis on his good fortune.PS: Another way to view that scene is: It just so happened that on the day that the press was given permission to interview the store clerk and owner- in which they were announcing publicly that there store sold the winning ticket- the ticket holder happened... [ More ]

Well I may be mistaken but what it actually said was that he read the sign and then remembered some lottery tickets he had. Now it is clear at this point that he didn't know he was the winner. The next line in the story said after the clerk shouted out the news the media began rushing in and he exited by a side door. I could be wrong but I took this to mean:1. He saw the banner proclaiming the store sold the winning ticket.2. He didn't know he was the winner but (I assume) he must have had the... [ More ]

One of the posters comments: And of course this story typifies the way the media treats lottery winners.1. Digging into his past and publishing information about his bankruptcy his (presumably) former employer, his (at one time) deliquent child support payments et cetera2:The store clerk valdiating his ticket (sic). I read and re-read the news story- no where does it say that he had the store clerk validate the ticket. He merely was at the store that he purchased the ticket and READ the sign

He developed an exit strategy to protect him and his framily from the myriad of parasites who will come begging from money. One may also look at some of the
