Education can only help for long term planning, something that Jack, and David Edwards seemed to lack. But at least we now have them as examples to learn from, and to know what NOT to do.

Actually an educated player will make that decision when the time comes, and based on their own personal circumstances. However a close-minded player will also opt for the lump sum no matter what the pay out, or circumstance..

I am pretty sure it's someone from Michigan that won. My hometown is about 10 miles west of Lyons and everyone from the Oh bordering towns goes to Lyons to buy cigarettes. I was shocked when I heard the news, the store where is was bought was where my mom buys hers. Imagine me calling my mom at 9am and screaming for her to check her tickets..lol

All the winner sees is the money. They realize they can get a larger some today, then receiving a lot of smalled sums that actually add up to a larger sum. They do not avoid any games. The fact that the states makes money proves you wrong. If the state lost money, it would go away. Lottery players, for the most part, don't even know it is annuity or cash until they try to collect. I am sure if a qp netted you a jackpot win you would not think they sucked so bad then. But it does get frustrating to dedicated lottery players to see once in a blue moon gamblers play and won via a qp. The worst is when someone already rich, such as a senator, win and only played just because the jackpot was so big. Man I hate that.

Agree!! Anyone who says money doesn't buy happiness either is flat broke and in denial or always had plenty of it to begin with, so he has no idea what it's like to cut coupons or look for bargains on toilet paper. If I won the lottery it would be 2-ply forever! LOL

I hope it's another lottery pool like the PB winners in Nebraska. Although it doesn't affect my life, I'd rather read that 5 or 10 people are new millionaires than only 1. The only reason I'd ever want to win more than $10M (cash value) is sharing would be a lot easier. If I won close to $100M after taxes, I could be very, very happy just keeping $20M of it

Congratulations to Ohio for winning the jackpot. If nobody had won the jackpot, the estimated jackpot for Friday would have been 331 million or an increase of 54 million [estimated]. I wonder if a group won a jackpot or an individual

Oh, I wish, I wish. Northern Ohio gets most of the Ohio winners. It's almost like southwestern ohio doesn't exist. Maybe next time. Congrats to the winner. Illinois won like 3 times in the first year of mega-millions for Ohio when nobody won in Ohio. That's a note for the person who said Ohio was the luckiest place.

The winning ticket from the $267 million Mega Millions drawing Tuesday night was sold in the northwest Ohio town of Lyons, an Ohio Lottery spokeswoman said.

The ticket was purchased at Lyons Main Stop, lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane told The Associated Press.

Store manager Linda Freeworth said she received the news from a radio station that called about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Radio and television reporters arrived soon after for interviews.
