Item 1: The presence, or the absence of that ticket in my life has no bearing on whether I'm stupid. Hell, of COURSE i'm stupid. 'Way too stupid to have been the person who managed to own that ticket, even though they didn't claim it.

FL Lotto/Mega Money jackpot tickets claimed after 60 days following the drawing might as well be thrown away-the winner forfeits his/her/their right to collect in lump sum. Most lotteries start the 60-day clock when the ticket is claimed.

LOLOLOLOLOL....as usual you can make me laugh quicker than anyone. When I buy tickets I cannot just forget them, they are always in the back of my mind, no matter how pre-occupied I might be. ..Additionally, I am sometimes baffled by the numbers drawn. Some of them are soooo strange, I would never have thought up the combination. I need to learn to be more creative w/my nuber series, then maybe my chances of winning would be better.

Libra, JXP : I have read stories where people threw the tickets in a drawer and forgot about them and only thought about it when they heard the news report.

We're all different, but I never put my tickets anywhere except in my car then I put them next to my laptop so I can check them right away when I log on in the am...

I can appreciate your points...they were indeed well made....I guess it all shows how very different people can be. Any number of reasons could prevent someone from claiming the prize. But, even in Death, (My Mom died in 1996) the family members ususally go thru all the personal letters, documents, bills, receipts, cancelled checks....ect of the deceased. If my Mom had ever purchased a Lottery Ticket, even that would have been discovered and naturally turned

It's not uncommon for a lottery ticket to go unclaimed. I've seen multi-million $$$ jackpots expire. It's not my money, so I don't know why I get so annoyed, but it's become one of my pet peeves. I simply will never understand why anyone would buy a lotto ticket without knowing the rules or toss it a drawer or a pants pocket. It is quite possible that the person died before claiming the ticket. I read at this web site site that a woman was hit by a car within hours of claiming her million dollar prize (I think). Maybe the holder of this ticket never got the opportunity to claim it. Anyway, more money to the pot.

A $200,000 winning Powerball lottery ticket sold in New Mexico expired today, without anyone stepping forward to rightfully claim the prize.

That is not to say that the New Mexico Lottery did not hear from several people claiming to be holding the winning ticket.

The calls received by lottery headquarters included one person who said she was on her way.
