I wonder if the Florida Lotto payout is still 50% of sales. It will be 60% in the near future. Florida still needs to join Powerball after Jeb Bush leaves office.

The cost of airfare is also rising thanks to rising gas prices. At a certain point $2 a ticket from an online broker looks good if you don't live near the place.

You have a point, regular is $2.65 in my area and that was too much for me to make the 200 mi. trip to Indiana to cash my PB ticket from Feb 18 when the jackpot was $225M. I might had made the trip if MM hadn't been so close. I'm thinking I may never cash in that ticket now.

Since Florida lottery rolled, it probably not even something to consider now. Good luck to you.

I was thinking of that once, RJOh, but Florida is a very long state and the GA border is approx 375 miles from my town according to mapquest (750 roundtrip) Today the gas station up the road had regular for $3.05. So unless you drive a hybrid that gets 50mpg, that's $80 or more just for gasoline. I can't see spending that to travel to buy tickets for a game with such high odds, but that's just my personal opinion. If I had that kind of money to blow, I'd get 80 more Florida lottery tickets. Most Floridians probably will just drive up to Georgia. Georgia will probably have players from the Carolinas, Tennessee and Alabama too. Georgia is like Ohio, surrounded by states that don't have MegaMillions.

Times has really changed, years ago when ever Florida had a large jackpot I would read about people from New York, Cleveland and Chicago flying into Florida to buy thousands of tickets to redistribute in their local area. If someone's still doing it, it doesn't make the news anymore.

In addition to not having a game-wide cash option, this is what the new GA-KY-VA Lose for Life is lacking: the suspense that comes with a big jackpot. In fact Lose for Life DOES NOT have a true jackpot. CashOnly
