Nice to see something positive about lottery winners. With all the stories about winners having problems, it's good to see something about winners who are actually having happy lives. We can all learn from stories like these. I have a pool running at work for Powerball and Louisiana Lotto, plus I buy Powerball for myself when it breaks $100 million.

If I or my pool wins, I plan to live a quiet life with my winnings. Perhaps move to a cheaper place and lay low once the excitement has die... [ More ]

There's really no point of advertising your wealth by talking to the media about it. Unlike celebrities who need their name out there to advance their success and career, lottery winners have nothing to gain. The lottery is not a career and you won't make a penny more by talking about it. There is no upside to it unless you like to be beseiged by those long-lost relatives, con men, beggars and assorted weirdos.

Whatever other effects winning the lottery might have on Mainers, in the long term it certainly turns them into a reclusive lot.

If they hadn't moved out of state or changed their phone to an unlisted number, they either refused to answer their phone or return calls. Most of those who did talk quickly stopped for fear that additional publicity would invite a wave of long-lost relatives asking for handouts.

The most recent Megabucks winners, Edward Cardali Jr. and Regan Cardali of Oakland... [ More ]
