I hope the winner puts most of the winning check into a network of nesteggs. If he/she can get 10% return every year, it would be like winning a lottery jackpot every year.

Also, I was wondering how you came up with this amount? Did you take into account that Powerball is a 29 year (30 payment) graduated annuity

justxploring...the first annuity payment for the recent Powerball jackpot ($254 million)would be around $4.52 million before any taxes are taken out.

JXP, Hope you caught my little tongue in cheek comment.

Others may not have, but I bet you did....

I think at our ages ( 45 to 55 ) we should choose cash.

The annuity is nice, but we could play our investments right and have OUR OWN annuities for a lonnng time..

I matched the first two numbers, so you can imagine that my heart rate went up a bit before reality set in..

DAM !! only 4 numbers off LOL !!

Wow! Congrats to the winners. I hope whoever bought the ticket doesn't have a weak heart. I just cannot imagine getting online and staring at the winning numbers. I hope some day I get to find out! Did any other articles indicate whether or not this was a QP? It usually is. Also, I'm not so sure the cash option is the best way to go, Double Down, but that's been an old debate on this board for a looooong time. I just don't like the graduated annuity because of my age. The winner of the largest lottery jackpot ever sold in Missouri worth more than a quarter of a billion dollars bought the ticket at a suburban St. Louis grocery store, state lottery officials said Thursday.

One person matched all six numbers drawn Wednesday - 9, 19, 29, 42, 53 and the Powerball number 17. The winner of the $254 million prize had not yet come forward. The ticket was sold at the Dierbergs grocery store on Tesson Ferry Road in south St. Louis County.
