Very simple economics at work now, give people more for their money and they'll keep buying more.

Lottery games creators need to strategize less like high-end retailers going belly-up everyday .......

more like world class $ucce$$ful mega-volume sellers Costco, Ikea and Walmart .... no frills, no smoke and mirrors, bottom line ..... buy more for less.

True profit is volume selling max value for consumer $$$ spent .... the only way state lotteries can lure bac... [ More ]

I will not buy NC instant games when I'm traveling through there.

I will, however, stop in South Carolina and buy theirs.

Instant Games are the bread and butter for any state lottery. Increase the payout NC and I'm sure the response will go over well. Why play NC scratch offs with only a 52% payout when states around NC have 65-70% payouts? Also, like Lottomike said... Bring in a pick 4 so those players don't have to run to the border. Lots can be done

..... Current law requires at least 35 percent of lottery profits be used to support education-related causes, such as class-size reduction and need-based scholarships. Easley has asked the General Assembly to decrease the sum to 29 percent, saying the difference would help create higher jackpots and more prizes for scratch-off tickets.

The anticipated sales boost would lead to $1.5 billion in sales during the next fiscal year and increase funds for education, Easley said. .........

First year not as profitable as predicted

Now a year old, the North Carolina Education Lottery is meeting its goal of keeping residents from crossing the border to buy tickets but failing to reach financial expectations initially touted by lawmakers and Gov. Mike Easley.

The lottery has set aside $220 million in profits for state education programs since the first tickets were sold March 30, 2006, removing North Carolina's label as the only East Coast state without the games.
