The seventh new millionaire was Alan Cartwright, of Oakland Park, who claimed the prize for a group of eight employees with Wema USA. He purchased their ticket at Publix, 100 W. Oakland Park Boulevard in Wilton Manors. Cartwright said he learned he had won when one of the guys in the group called him to relay the wonderful news. I can say one thing about Florideans..... they seem to find much success in Pooling their funds and winning at the big jackpots.

This is a nice story. The article didn't say the ticket was claimed in the name of a Trust. I don't know how that would affect the total tax, but I think the IRS will consider that to be one win so they might get hit with the tax on the entire million. Still, getting over $80,000 clear is a nice surprise...a lot better than my zero

A group of lucky workers from a distributor of electronic components will celebrate Independence Day much differently next year.

Sandra Pope-Guerriero of Pinellas Park, who works at Cross Components Inc. claimed a $1 million prize for herself and seven coworkers who pitched in to buy 16 Florida Lottery Firecracker tickets.

Pope-Guerriero bought the winning ticket at Rockwell's Pub Liquors on Starkey Road, one of two lottery retailers in the same shopping plaza that sold winning tickets.... [ More ]
