Although this situation has not turned out good for all those involved, at least it did raise awareness to this horrible problem. I believe that they could have been some devine intervention on the part of this particular lottery. I hope that some good can come out of this, maybe STAR can reach out to the victims of Ahsoak. Nothing is going to change what happen to the people he violated, but it does have people talking and maybe someone can benefit before it happens to their family.

He had to have known the incredible amount of hatred and disgust people have for molesters. And it doesn't take a genius to know being publicly announced as a lottery winner is going to stir the pot and seriously rile some people up. Anyway, if he didn't know it then he knows it now.

This is yet another example of why requiring lottery winners to be publicly identified is crazy. There is no need for winners to be publicly indentify, here in NSW, winners are allowed to remain anonymous and 99% do. Requiring winners to go public, can be disaster for the winners. Friends and family expect help and relationships can breakdown if they don't feel they are getting a fair share .

Don't be alarmed folks...child molestation is sick...and I despise sickos who do such nasty things. My choice of vocabulary comes from having just watched that Kiefer Sutherland movie where he was a serial rapist and I think it was Sallie Fields whose daughter was killed by him and she killed him in the end. That term kiddie pooh is just like an annoying song you hear in an elevator that plays over and over in your mind...by next week, I hope I will have forgotten it.

The majority of all sexual offenses are committed by heterosexual White males like Ahsoak.

I don't know if that statement is true or not.I do know that a lot of child molesters prefer young boys.Either way,though,they should be sentenced to life without parole so they can't molest other children.

Old School - I hope in some sick way you were being sarcastic. First of all, when you go to a doctor, you have no idea if he or she is homosexual, and it shouldn't matter to you. I could never be like this dude because kiddie pooh should not be touched...that is why I couldn't even be a pediatrician or emergency room doc who has to examine young rape victims or do the physical checkups. Let women docs do that...that is, unless the woman doc is a lesbian because in that case, that is the same as a man looking at a woman's private parts. Well enough of that.

What I don't get is:

1) Why do sex offenders have to register themselves? Why don't the courts do it?

2) What's somebody doing hiring a 45-yr-old (at the time), I assume non-relative, to babysit their daughter?

On a side note, I don't condone violence towards anybody, regardless of how heinous their acts may be. We have the legal system to deal with such persons. If the blows had been sufficient enough to kill the man, it would still be murder, so this is still assault. Vigilante j... [ More ]

Apparently not a robbery attempt, policeman says

The man who won Alaska's first half-million-dollar lottery was attacked on a downtown Anchorage street yesterday afternoon with a tire iron or metal pipe, according to police.

Police say Alec Ahsoak, 53, was attacked when a man approached him to ask if he was the man who won the $500,000 jackpot.
