RJ is right. Collecting for the entire year means that nobody was left out, even if they may have paid a week after everyone else. I'd guess that the principal is smart enough to have covered most of the other bases, too, but that alone almost guarantees that nobody else can make any reasonable claim to have been part of the group.

When you know guys are willing to contribute $104 in advance you get motivated. I think putting money in advance saves the group a lot of hustles and liabilities. And they have been doing that for how long now? I'm sure they know who plays in the group and who doesn't, so those who foam at the mouth when they see others efforts paying off will have zero chance to make a claim.

A group of 15 teachers ... who've been playing the state lottery together for seven years, picked the winning numbers for a $76 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot that was drawn on Saturday.

Gray collects $104 annually from each participant

The winners are not sure how much money each person will get, but Gray figures about $2.5 million after taxes.

Nice return for less that $750 invested. J.Q.Public ain't getting that on Wall Street.

Since Gray collected $104 from all the participants for tickets for the whole year in advance and bought them for 10 weeks at a time, it's going to be hard for anyone to file a suit claiming they had intended to contribute to the pool the week of the winning draw but was not asked.

Precisely why i would remain anonymous.

I too like seeing a group win. I disagree with an earlier comment which would eliminate people based on their salaries such as an architect or engineer. The lottery is a game of chance. I can even say that knowing (from another story on lottery post weeks ago) that child molester won. I only wish that his victims could file civil suits to help them with the years of counseling they'll need in their lives.

Personally,I would prefer not to share with a group of other people because I'm greedy.I agree that people like David Lee Edwards pissed away his jackpot,BUT,it was his jackpot to piss away,no one elses.Who's to say what a person should do with a windfall like that?Not me.I don't agree with how he spent his jackpot,but then again,it was none of my business,and he didn't ask me how to spend it.My days of using nose candy,smokable dope and booze are thirty years in my past.I think... When people choose to gamble, it's voluntary and if they don't think the rewards (prizes) are worth the risk (odds) then they shouldn't play. There are games with better odds and smaller prizes for those who like those types of games but they aren't for me, I like lottery games with jackpots of $20M to $200M.

Madd Mike all I was trying to say is that I am glad it was a group and not just one person. The majority of people who win the lottery are responsible with their windfalls. There are also people who win outrageous jackpots like David Lee Edwards who ended up blowing the money within 5 years of winning the jackpot. There are numerous others who have also blown through their windfalls. I was just stating what COULD happen when one indivdual wins a large jackpot.

Great story, turn out good...Is good to hear a teacher winning millions....What i don't like is to hear that young guys that appear couple of weeks ago age 24 i think that won....That's why the lottery should specifically choose the winner even if is cheating, i'll also hate to see an ingeeneer or architect or people that make 75K win the jackpot, because is not fair....The lottery is too random...

Years ago, Ohio thought $20M was the right maximum amount for one ticket to win. At the time its Super Lotto jackpots went as high as $70M some times and the adjacent states didn't have their own lottery so many of its winners were from out of state. Ohio came up with the rule that regardless of the advertised jackpot amount, one ticket could only win a $20M jackpot. That rule lasted for about a year after people stopped playing but by that time all the surrounding states had their own lotteries... [ More ]

Less trouble when the agreements are old cold . Woulda, Coulda, and Shoulda (and their loi-yaz) are shut out.

Each group member will get their part of the split without having everyone else's money tied up because of any one member's sleazy family or friends.

That's a nice story, we all know that school teachers are not paid enough. I rather see a group of people win a large jackpot than one individual. We all know what can happen when one person wins too much money.

congrats to the lucky winners. Its nice to see a lottery group win. I facilitate the lottery pool at my place of employment and all the members were extremely shocked at how professional I handle everything....thanks to all the news stories that I have read on Lotterypost I can honestly say that i will not have the same issues that other pools have had in the past .

and its even better that they are teachers. They are already so extremely underpaid.

Gray collects $104 annually from each participant, banks it, then goes to the Circle K and buys 10 weeks of tickets in advance, playing the same numbers.

Now that the way to run a lottery pool. At least nobody will be able to claim they weren't in the day the money was collected to buy tickets.
