The move frustrates reporters in the media...

anything that does this has my full support...congrats to the man....but D.C's tax laws are garbage and filth...much like the rest of the people in the city...the only thing worth seeing there these days is the national monuments...but even those are being figureatively defaced with D.C. policies and taxes

It is always smart for the winner but not smart the legitimacy of the lotto. If everyone could remain anonymous others players would continue to question the validity of the so-called winners. Even though I see all the news stories etc, I still question the validity of anyone winning the powerball. I know how hard it is. Here in Australia lottery winners have an automatic right to anonymity. Lotteries can not identify them without their permission. Most choose to, quite sensibly, remain anonymous.

I only play $1 quick pick per draw but I'm probably going wrong by getting a multi week ticket. Since the numbers drawn change every draw my numbers should probably change also.

You're obviously not aware that old people (your words) play the lottery more often than young people . Would logic not dictate that old people would therefore win more often?

Nevertheless, I would be very interested in seeing your statistics showing the old people win more often. You obviously compiled some factual data the proves this claim, right? Why else would you make a definitive statement that old people win more often?

Congrats also in his going about claiming this the way he did, especially after the feeding frenzy there was over it with the media acting as if they were entitled to know and expose the winner for every sorry case, crook and conman or politician which is the same thing, especially in DC's case go chase after him.

Like other cities, it does have a mayor and a city council which function the same as other city governments. Income tax in DC is 8.5%, which he would have to pay anyway at the end of the year anyway, they are just getting it upfront (still kinda pathetic that they would change the law based off of one guy). DC considers lottery winnings personal income, so eventually he would have to pay it. And if he were a smaller winner, I would be worried that he wouldn't set aside that extra few million and at the end of the year he might find himself not being able to pay it if he overspent while celebrating.... Way to go! Smart Man wait a couple of weeks get everything in order and claim with a lawyer. This is exactly how I plan to claim my jackpot..One Day...LOL. What?!!! Did anyone expect anything different from a Democrat party controlled area?!!! Tax and spend baby....TAX and spend!!! The saw two good things coming and had to change the rules to their advantage. Another reason I would only visit DC ON BUSINESS ONLY....never to just take a vacation there.

Wow I can't believe the District of Columbia would change the income tax rules on lottery prizes just so they could have a piece of the pie. And 8.5%!!!! That is insane for a state tax. How can they institute that afterwards.

The winner of a $144 million Powerball jackpot has finally stepped forward, nearly three weeks after the lottery drawing, demonstrating one of the best ways for a lottery player to claim a big prize.
