Yes, indeed, the selling retailer does receive their cut (probably already did, since Powerball headquarters knows, after the drawing, exactly where all the winning tickets were sold at) regardless of whether the $400K winning ticket is claimed. Although most retailers put a big sign in their storefront window hoping that if the ticket is in the posession of a repeat customer that this person will see the poster and be prompted to check their old tickets!

I believe this For99c. I see the clerks handle the machine when it jams up and I don't think they cancel all those tickets, they don't seem to like doing the job at the lottery machine in the first place. I don't go to stores like that anymore, I go to one place to play where they LIKE me, call me by name, take my numbers seriously, gives me my tickets the exact way I have them, sneak in a winner every once in a while for me by doubling my wager on a number, and give me freebies like tickets and... Maybe they had a reason for not checking their tickets.Like death or disability.

What a waste! Probably a first time player...and they haven't even checked their ticket. One thing is for certain....whoever it was, they didn't need the money...because people who do, actually CHECK their tickets

I'm sure someone has tried to make an unsuccessful claim by now. Use to be such claims would make the news, people who claimed to have been traveling through that town on the particular day the ticket was sold and decided to buy a lottery ticket at the particular store that sold it but forgot about the it until they read about it in the news and now can't find it.

I wonder if the retailer that sold the ticket will still get the $500 bonus for selling the ticket if nobody claims the money.

Ticket worth $400,000 purchased in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

A $400,000 winning Powerball ticket from the May 28, 2008 purchased in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania remains unclaimed.

The ticket and prize will expire on May 28 one year from the date of the drawing.
