When Sharon was Director in California, she really shook things up. She made the people at the Lottery do something instead of just coming to work every day...

When we won the new contract in the early 90's, she came over to our office. Sharon was a Dom Perignon kind of lady - I once asked her whey she drank only Dom and she said cheap champagne gives me a headache and I realized that's why I never drink champagne (no one ever bought me the expensive stuff). She was the GOP candidate for Illinois secretary of state in 1978

Sharon Sharp, whose accidental entry into politics started with a $10 loan from Donald Rumsfeld, ran for Illinois secretary of state in the late 1970s and was the state's lottery director under Gov. Jim Thompson.

Mrs. Sharp, 69, died of lung cancer Sunday, July 5, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said her son, Christopher Kip Sharp. She lived on the city's Gold Coast.
