I was surprised to hear Chinese people talking of buying property and houses and planes and traveling around the world and such.

China must be becoming a less repressive society than in the past, which is good to hear.

I still would have a little apprehension though in fully trusting that government with confidence in the legitimacy of the lottery with so much money at stake.

Water-cooler talk across China has been awash with theories on how to spend a fortune after someone from Henan province won nearly 360 million yuan (US$52.7 million) on Thursday.

The prize is the country's biggest jackpot to date.

Despite the fact that the lucky winner has not yet stepped forward to claim the prize, many have an opinion on how much happiness it might buy.
