With the UK lottery there is no instalement pay out system, the winner gets a one time pay out, plus the winning is tax free, the only time these winners would have to pay tax is when they die, who ever they leave their fortune to is then taxed 40% (40% inheritance tax) of whatever this couple or other big lottery winners leave in their will.

Congratulations to them! However, I think they were very unwise to go public, the UK lottery allows anonymity for all lottery winners; and all lottery winnings are tax-free. I suspect they will regret the publicity, time will tell.

Yes loved that show !

SInce Australia is reigned by British monarchy I would think the same tax concept holds true. I do know that the average Brit is flat taxed around 30%...no matter the income...that is harsh with no year end reward or tax releif.Will research though , as it would be interesting to find out!

Congrats to this family! May they enjoy some of the blessings and debt releif that comes with this windfall!

That is certainly one word that should be banned; whatever ; just what does that mean exactly--it means: do whatever you please; everything or anything that ....--based on this I would assume she would want the family to do whatever with her share of the winnings!!

I wonder how the Euro Lottery and the UK deal with taxes. The articledoesn't go into their calculations and how they arrive at their figures.

Not sure now, but there was a time when the U.S. was the only country that taxed gambling winnings.

In a lot of other countries, whtever you win is yours, no tax.

One of our Aussies hjere on LP once explained that they way Australia does it is the ticket is $1.03 AUS. The $.03 has pre-paid the tax for the winner.

Who's to decide what amount of money someone deserves?? If you don't like large jackpots play lesser state games or scratchers. Their are many different kinds of lottery games to appeal to different kinds of lottery players. Large Progressive jackpots appeal to certain groups of people who like to dream big. The larger jackpots generate more revenue for states, the lottery, for education.....so they should be as large as the Market will Bear....as we are a Free Market society(or were before the... I don't agree. Lotto jackpots should be around $21M and no more. That way there are more winners whose lives are changed. People don't need more than $7M after taxes to live on. If you do, you can't manage your finances.
