I agree. If anything you are reducing the amount of money that could be raised for education because people can't play on that day, so less bucks for education coming in. Or people could just buy the day b4. You are just inconveniencing people by making them buy their tickets on a different day. It reminds me of these 1 day gas boycotts. Oh, this is interesting. I wonder if not being able to purchase lottery tickets on election days results in a higher per capita of voting by registered voters on election days vs. other states. I'd enjoy reading an depth research article

HILARIOUS FUNNY LAW!! When i lived in Los Angeles 77 thru 84 the only time you could NOT buy alcohol was between the hours of 4-5 a.m ... 7 days a week. I don't know if its still the same, but it sure made partying easier

Ridiculous.

Just like closing down the bars on election day that some places used to do.

Or banning beer and liquor sales on Sunday to make sure you go to church instead of getting drunk as usual.

There's no limit to the asinine things do-gooders can come up with.

My favorite though is banning guns in big cities where you need them the most. Statistics show, every time, that shootings, murders and crime in general always skyrockets when they ban guns but I guess it's the thought that... [ More ]

There will be drawings, but all terminals will be off line all day, so no ticket sales (for any day) and no validations.

Here is the last line of the announcement from the SC Lottery:

Lottery drawings will take place as normally scheduled.

It's kind of a dumb law, if you think about it. What is the object here - to ensure people get to the polling booths?

Well, if people are going out to buy lottery tickets, aren't they more likely to be ... out of the house? Maybe if they don't have their normal reason to go to the store (i.e., to buy lottery tickets), maybe they won't bother going out to vote either.

I'm just a little confused because there are no lottery drawings for SC today at all ( 6/08/10). Maybe you can buy a ticket today for Tomorrow's drawings

You buy your tickets for advance play for the day the machines are down. They still have the drawings.

I have an advance play ticket which I purchased for todays drawing.

This is the first time that I am aware of that South Carolina has not had a lottery drawing on an election day. Apparently, there were drawings done on the date of the last Presidential elections in South Carolina:

Day: 403 6619, Night: 393 9309, Palmetto Cash 5: 14-24-27-29-30 PowerUp 2, Mega Match 6: 2-8-12-23-31-35

For those looking to test your luck in the South Carolina state lottery, you won't be able to Tuesday.

During statewide election days, South Carolina law prohibits the sale of all lottery products.

This applies to instant and online games.

Therefore, all lottery terminals will be offline from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
