I can't wait to see how this plays out....I really don't think he will get half of her 80 Million, but if he does I wonder how much he will have to pay his attorney? Did everyone see her photo with the black eye? She should count this marriage as a loss, pay him half and move forward with her life! You can easily live off 40 Million for the rest of your life...at least I know I could.

I have to disagree. When the tables are turned the other way (i.e. man wins lottery and is separated from wife), the winner usually is forced to share some portion of the winnings with the estranged partner. The feminist movement has been screaming for equality for decades...well, now we will see equality truly in action when this lady has to share her jackpot winnings with her estranged husband. Equality...fairness...gotta love it

Congratulations to the winner! Legally, her husband is entitled to part of the winning since they are not divorced, unfortunatedly. In the case where people are already divorced. The spouse should not have been able to win any money unless. the spouse won during the marriage, filed for divorce and kept the assets hidden during the divorce proceedings, or child support was not paid after the divorce and their is a claim by spouse for having to maintain sole support of minor children.

he could have set it up in a trust and then the lawyer becomes the spokesperson, but some states might not let you ! I know that a few years ago a couple did that in Ohio.

According to the Idaho lottery FAQ the winner has up to sixty days after the ticket is presented to decide if they want the single cash payment or the annuity.

Note. If this jackpot winner waited TWO months from now she would have missed the 60 day limit with which to select the lump sum, cash option. [The last time a jackpot winner selected the annuity amount (mainly advertised) was in year 2007!]

Well, freeobama, I agree with you -- perhaps, their lives will improve. Sometimes financial stress may cause some people to act foolishly -- domestic violence.

If he gets half, there will be no need for him to reconcile; he has his, she has hers. More than likely, he will go about his merry way, hopefully, staying in contact with his kids. I would not be surprised if he was dating before the big news splash. I hope he has not made any more kids.

Usually if people are divorced, the spouse does not receive any winnings; separated, yes. Of course, if there are children under 18, he or she must support them. I recall about thirteen years ago, a New Jersey wife sued for half the husband's winnings and lost because they were divorced. In fact, he hit the lottery after divorcing her 6 months. The TV program Inside Edition just showed a picture of her with a blackeye when she was together with her husband. He's been arrested 20 times and one time was charged with kidnapping, battery and domestic assault but not comvictdd or something.

They said she is now in hiding and he may get half of her jackpot.

Me personallyi I would have waited least 2 months to cash8 the ticket(trust) that way all the curiosity of who won the lottery is dead. You already have the money in a sense now that you have the ticket.just put in a safety deposit box or bank,keep your mouth closed.and just sit down those two months and make plans for your money. Now im Happy for her and have NO idea of her situation but there are stories, true and untrue all the time of women leaving their husband for other men/women/careers whatever and then using the bias legal system to keep the kids from her husband. Rule of common sense should be if you are in a dysfunctional relationship, do not play the jackpot games until you are completely out of it.

Focus on the pick 5 games. So you don't have to worry about the greedy vipers taking half of what you won.

I am happy for this woman but miffed that the estranged husband is about to walk off with half of what should be all hers.
