I don't know why some people sre so greedy. Those guys are already rich, and they gonna still play the lottery to get richer. Fucck this shiit. People shouldn't even bother wasting their money in this stupiid lottery shiit beacause the people that really and deserve to win the lottery can't win. I'm still convince that the lottery is a scam. I seriously delighted at the comment from the Store Owner after the winners stepped forward, He said Gee I dont recall selling them a ticket! . Thankfully these gents do not need the store owner to verify their winning ticket! There's something to be said about getting all your ducks in a row within a couple days and claiming the jackpot within a few days to a week. It will eliminate a lot of people claiming lost tickets which will in some cases bring more attention to you(the winner)...

I live in a high crime area with a lot of gang activity. If I am the lucky winner and my photo was released in this manner, my safety would be compromised and my home broken into. And here I am trying to protect my identity..... and my family.

I believe this store should be obligated to immediately release footage at the exact moment the ticket was purchased so that some random person doesn't get awarded $245 million for a ticket they stole.

But somebody mentioned the real winner might be forming a trust so they can remain anonymous. Ironic that the more time they take, the better the chance their identity will be revealed. Once again it's the store who's talking to the media and not the person supposedly claiming to have lost the ticket.

That is certainly an interesting position to take. I suspect the IRS would argue that because the decision was solely in the hands of the winner, constructive receipt has occurred if the winner chooses the cash option a few days after January 1. I don't have a good feel for how a judge might decide the issue for a single winner. Actually a wallet is a safer place to keep a ticket than either place that you mentioned.What if someone breaks into your house when you aren't home?What if your house would catch on fire?i'd rather have the ticket on my hip than laying out where anyone could snatch it.As long as its signed,it really doesn't matter where you keep it,though.

I'll bet CT government is getting pretty excited that the owner might have lost the ticket. Even though CT has the highest per capita income in USA, the Government of CT is lagging behind many states in revenue collection.

Actually a wallet would be a terrible place to keep a ticket that big. What if your wallet gets stolen or the ticket falls out when you open it for another need? I keep my tickets in an area that I frequently access but is not full of junk. Usually the nightstand drawer or the top of my computer desk. That way it's still within availability I don't have to worry about throwing it away or digging through because no on ever comes into my room but me.

That's generally true, but most PB states give winners 60 days to make the decision on whether to take cash or annuity. I don't think it's been tested IRL, but there seems to be a lot of speculation that having 60 days to make that decision means you don't have constructive receipt until the decision is made. In that case any such win after 11/1 wouldn't be taxable until the following year if the winner waits to claim it or waits to make the decision.

The payout would still be taxable in 2011, not 2012. The IRS rules are that income is taxable in the first year when it could be collected, not when it is actually received. If you hit the lottery in late December, they would not be able to pay you until January and it would not be taxable until then.

A good attorney would advise a client not to reveal themselves until the lottery could actually pay them the next day. And the winner should make plans to leave immediately to an undisclosed loc... [ More ]

to that day comes, its sitting their collecting bank interest

I love the fact Connecticut Lottery is now putting up billboards all over the State trying to find the real winner. It must be driving them insane to finally have someone win such a huge jackpot and not be able to parade the winner in front of the media for all to see. That could be the case for a 21-year-old Danbury customer who said he had the winning ticket for the Nov. 2 Powerball drawing but lost it.

The $254 million prize was the biggest Powerball jackpot in Connecticut history and the 12th biggest jackpot in Powerball history.

At a 7-Eleven on Mill Plain Road, owner Abu Sayed said a 21-year-old customer claimed to have lost the winning ticket: 12-14-34-39-46, Powerball 36.

Sayed is skeptical.
