Congrat's to the single Mega Millions jackpot (as of the current time I'm posting) from Maryland..... WOW is all I have to say, although I thought that there would be between 5-7 winners sharing the Mega Millions Jackpot, once I noticed that #23 had been drawn as both a white ball, and as the Gold Mega Ball, I pretty much new that it reduced the chances of having so many winners.

You see. while I understand that incentitives can be used for advertising purposes, I also think that giving free plays for multi-State games if it is not coordinated across the board for all member States, it does sway, and change the fairness of the multi-state games.

Its my understanding that each state who participates has rules but not one of them is to come to a GROUP decision on how state run enticers are played. They are at liberty to promote within the rules by the Multistate guidelines. I cringe though that a state would line its own politicians though....Our state lottery gives to a senior sector ....

You know, I was just thinking, the State of Illinois, is now testing out the online lottery ticket sales for the Mega Millions game.

However I'm interested in the legal logistics of this.

For one it seem's that this will effect the State economy overall, since vendor's have grown to depend upon lottery ticket sales as a part of their profits etc.

Because if not, the same 'hackers' will have enough information about you to do whatever they wish, and even if that's the case, what's to stop them from attempting to break into various financial institutions and lottery headquarters' online client files on a one-time payout, particularly one of this magnitude with this much publicity surrounding it?

You could always include relatives in a corporation and give them a percentage of the company that otherwise would amount to what you give them.

If you gave them the full $5 mil as a gift, you would not be obligated for any additional taxes. You just couldn't gift any more without incurring taxes.

For the calendar year 2012, the gift tax once you exceed your allowance of 5 million is 35% which you are responsible for paying. Talk about double taxation

You can always just gift 13k per year to ANYONE a year or 26K if you are married without any tax consequences.

I just found out that Pennsylvania does not allow you to claim the jackpot in a blind trust.

So I retain my plan to claim the prize and then put the money in a RLT that has not been revealed to everyone!

I was kind of hoping that they would do it this time around.

Also I think, that the States should make a policy change for unclaimed Jackpot prizes, some States, will take the monies from unclaimed tickets and put it into a second chance drawing, or other promotion.

Yet other States will simply take it and use it for the purpose in which they started the lottery to fund.

I would like to see that the States, even those that take it and use for the State lottery purposes, put a cap

If people win a multi-million lottery jackpot, they should try to think that they only have about 30% of their winnings available.

From that they should treat it as a budget just like any other income.

Never exceed ones debt beyond 30% of that amount.

So if they win $100 million after taxes, it would be wise, to have the mentality that they only can access $30 million of it, and of that amount debts should never exceed... [ More ]

There is a way to pick the correct numbers.

Almost every game out of 6 sets of numbers, I have picked all of the drawn numbers, but I have only matched three in a line at best.

The Ohio annuity is $14,330,769

Someone caculated that if the Federal rate goes to 70% then annuity payments would go down to

$4,984,615 assuming the Ohio tax rate stays at 6%.

NEVER hand a clerk tickets and ask them to check if you have any winners.

Check them yourself online and know what you have coming. Clerks are the biggest lottery prize crooks there are.

I hope you really won just that 2 dollars and not something a lot more that the clerk kept for themself.

I pulled a boner today. I filled out new MM cards on a wheeled system and presented them to the cashier at a convenience store. Unfortunately, I hadn't checked them carefully enough and I missed one number on one line. As I tried to figure out what number should have been there and the clerk waited, someone got in line behind me so I just guessed what number it should have been. At home I checked and see that with my wrong guess, I now have two lines identical.

I bought 2 tickets from a girl at a gas station who keeps winning everytime she buys a scratch-off. I hope her luck rubs off on non-scratch-offs!

I, too, am going to a few places to buy tickets. At Kroger, I bought one with my last $1, then bought some groceries, got some cash and bought another $1 ticket.

Even if one includes one's parents in the trust/LLC, though, the IRS will likely claim that, unless there was written evidence that the parents shared in the ownership of the ticket, the purchaser of the ticket would have to pay gift taxes on the portion that was transferred to others through the LLC. I'm thinking of that guy on the TLC show where he won in high school and lost it all in bad business ventures. But... I also think of how terrible some older people have thrown away their money (or could throw it away), so a young winner may not be too bad.

I actually know a few younger people who would spend it wisely and some older people who would simply get high on whatever drug there is.

Could be a smart move C0w.....thats not a bad yearly thing for your age...if you made mistakes your first 10 years, the remaining 15 would make the pain go away.........Course, us older folks have made most of our mistakes and we realize the tax issues and give aways and have the ability to say no .
