I wish the powers that be would just cut the sh*t with THIS an' inch at a time 'mode and just open an interstate lottery operation that's comparable to the offshore companies.

I agree with your comments, and I will add that privatization would definitely help state lotteries get to online sales much quicker. That's how Illinois did it. The state lotteries are too cautious and always waiting for the others to move first -- and they all know it. I'm still not sure if a private company can run a leaner operation than the state lotteries, because the state lotteries already run a pretty lean operation, but I do know that private companies are able to accomplish riskier th... There's another foot in the door.

NJ will probably go next and then as the process becomes less threatening and more importantly, profitable, resistance will lessen and the dominoes will start to fall, slowly at first and then competitively in a quest for badly needed revenue.

And the state lotteries will surely follow suit for a piece of the online action.

Gov. Brian Sandoval signed legislation Thursday legalizing online gambling in Nevada, capping a dizzying day at the Legislature as lawmakers passed the bill through the Assembly and Senate as an emergency measure.

Nevada wanted to beat New Jersey, its East Coast casino rival, to the online gambling punch. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie previously vetoed an online wagering bill but has indicated he may sign an amended version next week.
