This is another step for lottery. It's good because it is accessible to consumers, in addition it will definitely boost their sales. I hope other states will consider this option too.

We replaced Bank Tellers with ATM's and adapted to it.

And Bank Tellers were considerably more intelligent than Convenient Store Clerks and much less likely to try and rip people off.

So why couldn't we replace Lottery Clerks with ALM's (Automatic Lottery Machines)?

We don't need no stinking clerks.

I agree - stay OFF the grid. I bet the link to your bank account is an attempt to prevent underaged teens from playing. That kid that is just old enough to drive, or any passenger that might be underaged and their pal is letting them pay. Without the electronic tie in, it would be like the cigarete machines where we used to step inside the door of an establishment, buy a pack real quick and dash. Do you have to also buy gas to play

where I live in NC, there are stores that will let you use a debt card to purchase scratchers or draw tickets. just as long it's a debt card.

The 70% that pay at the pump are obviously walking in to play the tickets, it it's running don't fix it.

If you ever do use a machine for lottery purchases you will quickly learn its quirks. It may cost you a few bucks in the process but in the end may be worth it. In the case of the machine having your debt card it could cost you a lot of bucks.

Not a good idea. I wouldn't go for it, it will leave a trace on smaller prizes and I would end up owing the I.R.S. , plus the thought of it malfunctioning or me pressing the wrong numbers and end up spitting up $1000 worth tickets and over drafting my account is not appealing, especially when lotto tickets are non-refundable.

I rarely ever buy my tickets from the machines, I prefer to get my tickets from the clerks hand. I wouldn't mind buying online though, that would be a nice option to hav... [ More ]

Amounts up to $600.00 deposited to your debit card, so say you hit $500.00 ten times and won $5,000.00, under the old system you get the cash and there is no trace for taxes. Under the Pay at the Pump the State Lottery will have your winnings on record and will expect you to pay tax on $5,000.00 of gambling winnings.

I agree, they should'nt be in my business unless it's a big prize amount.

I thought they won't let you buy a lottery ticket with a card (debit or credit) since there is a fee associated with the card that the lottery doesn't want to pay.
