Of all the Illinois draw games this one is really the pits. The overall odds of winning anything being 1:4.54 sound good but it's a trap.

Usiing these numbers to test against it everyday, the highest payout would have been $5, and that only happened once. There were a few $2 hits, but for the most part, just as it's designed to do, the average result was 5, 6, or 7 hits, which pays nothing.

I used 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, just to make it easy to remember.

When AON came out I researched it so I knew what the game was about. I guess there are a lot of people out there that don't bother and it would be easy to think you can't lose on that game.

As to Pick 5, that is pretty tricky. But they count on people not thinking about the odds and payouts. Again, trying to add on $1 is how today's lottery commissions are hoping to make more money.

I certainly hope the Illinois lottery gets enough complaints but the only game I've ever seen go by the wayside was a scratcher they had in Spanish format called Loteria. The objects to be scratcher were beans and it was very confusing. A local gas station owner told the lottery guy to keep them, he didn't want them in his store - caused too many questions.

In re omitting zero payout for Hit and Miss, Texas does the same thing for AoN. And they're not run privately. However, the payout chart does have a gap so it draws your attention to the disconnect. I think once Illinois gets enough complaints they might insert some space too. lol

Yeah, I know that's how it's set up, I just consider real bush league of Northstar (the compnay that runs the Illinois lottery for those of you who didn't know it) to omit the zero payout hits from the chart, to make it appear everything wins. I wonder how many clerks have had to point that pout to players already. No sir, you hit 5, see, there's no payout. WHAT?

The overall chances of winning something in both games is 22% so players can expect to have 1 winning ticket out of every 5. IMO, the problem is with the game is not the quantity of wins, but the quality of wins. I predict 20 All or Nothing lines in all four drawings every day and because my ID is at the bottom of the list, I see all the other All or Nothing predictors' results. The majority of the wins are $2 with several $10 winners, but very few $50 winners.

I like this type of game. Plan on trying this in person in a few weeks. only problem I have with any of the games is they need to extend the length of draw days. Without being a on-line bettor. Other then the big games Megaball Powerball . None offer a full month of play time or more. I would love to just walk- in and purchase my tickets on a daily game at 45- 60 day. I don't get to this area but every 3- 4 months. I wish the lotteries of a lot of states will consider that as a option in some st... [ More ]

You know, it's almost a little deceptive no to list 7, 6, and 5 not paying anything on the payoff chart....they're trying yo make it look like everything wins. Shame on you, Northstar.

Good points Stack. Most people that play Caribbean Stud and play the progressive meter have no concept of the odds of being dealt a royal flush. I never saw the progressive amount get even close to that.

Good point because Texas pays $10 for matching 3 or 9 numbers and Illinois will only pay $5. It's $50 compared to $20 matching 2 or 10 numbers and $500 compared to $250 for matching 1 or 11 numbers. But that doesn't change the facts the odds against winning any those prizes are identical.

If you play 24 draws a week on this game you will win back about 25-40% of what you bet, unless you hit the $500 in Tx ($250 in IL) or better. Obviously, that's a rare occurance. In just about every draw here, there are anywhere from 1 to maybe 4 $500 winners, sometimes none. I do best just playing 2 or 3 times a week. And yes, most of the time you will have 5,6 or 7 numbers which pay nothing. That's how the game is set up.

8 out of 12 is break even- good luck

I was about to say this game is better than the one in Texas because of the (potentially) added $100K/year for top prize winners......

Until I saw the lower prizes.

Match Texas Illinois

11 or 1 $500 $250

10 or 2 $50 $20

9 or 3 $10 $5

Matching 5, 6, and 7 numbers really are the most common hits, at least in my experience. Several players have complained and sales are down so Texas has had to run about 5 promotions to encourage people to buy this game.

Take a good look at the payoff chart in the OP.

It lists payoffs for 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 4, 3, 2, 1 hits.

Notice the gap between 8 and 4? Hitting 7, 6, or 5 doesn't pay...guess what the most common result will be.

Northstar is going after players who would go into a lo-ball poker pot with a pair of kings.
