It is great to know that wheter the prize is claimed or unclaimed it will end up in a very good use. After reading this article I am also excited to find out who the winner is, hope he/she will show up soon. What I'm thinking is the unfortunate instance that what if the ticket was lostor burned. Well hope not because that ticket is definitely a life-changing one.

In california, you have 60 days from the time its VALIDATED to chose your payout option. You have up to a year to claim it for MEGA MILLION JACKPOT claims. Two separate steps. One is Validating , the other is the claim choice for payment.

So if you won the drawing on Jan 1, and go down to the lottery headquarters in May, Thats your validation day (May), then you have 60 days from May to make a choice on payment type (cash or annuity). Clock starts ticking from draw date for 365 days to make

I only live about twent-five minute drive from Jenny's Gift and kids Wear Store where that winning Mega Millions lottery ticket was sold and congratulated Mr. Thuy Nguyen. Thuy was so excited about getting a bonus of $One million dollars for selling that ticket! I think he should have closed his store for a few weeks at least to hyper-down. Thuy said it was Bhuda that got him his bonus. I don't believe it at all,it was pure luck,that's all.

Wow! So, it turns out Steve Tran didn't know he had a winning ticket until recently, his tickets were piled up on top of his drawer and even went on vacation without knowing he hit it big.

his $ DOLLAR $ bought Steve the BIG DREAM !!!!

Steve reminded me of Psyko on some of his trips all over town look'n 4 a big

crowd mapping out places I liked 2 buy tickets on GPS 4 another day time.

This story reminds me of the book by Pearl Buck, The Pearl.

Happiness is not found in material wealth but in keeping one's family safe from the vicissitudes of life.

True, but it also gives someone the opportunity to invest in a business, hire people, which is an alternative to being deported, and it is also beneficial to our economy.

Also, we don't know what will happen in the another country, i.e., if the money will be confiscated by the government. I don't know why people are even discussing this since most people who are living here illegally have family members and friends who are not.

Marketing plays an important role in state lotteries, so I don't think he's being a jerk. It's just one more story for the media. OTOH, it is also very helpful to spread the word, since so many prizes aren't claimed. I'd make arrangements to disappear for a while after collecting my money, so that's probably what the winner is doing. Actually, I wouldn't even want to win that kind of money, although it would be nice to help a lot of people.

Yeah, the lottery guy was kind of a jerk for gloating that you cannot hide.

But as far as the 60 day part, that is not just CA law, that is nationwide. Has to do with IRS rules for time allowed to select a payment option.

I agree. That lotto spoke person is a moron. If he was getting hounded after a lotto win we would see how he feels about NO HIDING comment. I hate pricks like that.

Also CA law only can pick cash option for 60 days? Even though claim with in a year? That would suck let people get there life in order they are being smart.

As for the winner- if I had to guess, they're waiting as long as possible until the 60 day lump sum option expires, hoping that someone else wins a medium sized lottery so that they can get a little more lost in the news shuffle + have everything ready to go to disappear, start new...Or they lost the ticket.

Heh, heh...yeah, no hiding in Cali. They changed the rules earlier this year. The guy is probably trying to figure out how he can hide, but no such luck. Sorry Charlie.

They'll probably release the store video of the suspected winner to the TV news in a few weeks/months to force them to come forward. CA lottery likes to do that.
