Yeah definitely staying away far away from this one. My main retailer I buy from said one of his big spenders and usual big winner with scratch offs said he bought 2 packs for $1800, got $200 and some change back on each pack. Big loss there.

You touched on another reason I don't play scratchers. If I drop $20 or $30 on one ticket, it blows my budget for the whole week. Plus check out the odds on them. Not so great. The one thing about scratchers is that you know at some point the top prize tics are somewhere once they release them. But trying to find one of the 8 or 10 top prizes out of 10 or 20 million tickets is not too enticing for me.

$10, $20, and $30 is a little steep for scratchers, but it's amazing that players who wouldn't touch them will glady spend more that that $1 at a time.

Why not play them and scratch just a few things on the ticket a day?

Or are scratchers really for thos with Type A personalities who can't even wait for a drawing and want to know if they won RIGHT NOW

Interesting scenario. Buying 15 PB tickets gives you roughly 38% chance of winning anything. Buy one of these these PA tickets gives you roughly 37% chance of winning anything. PB sounds better right? Sure, until you look at chances of at least making your money back......

PB prize = $30, Odds are 1 in 491.4

PA prize = $30, Odds are 1 in 2.7

Since the PB breakeven prize for $30 would have to be $100, let's be fair and divide its odds by 3.33. That makes it 1 in 147.6, still worse than P... [ More ]

PA used to offer $25 scratch-offs a few years ago. They didn't go over too well, so they stopped offering them. So if they tried a cheaper ticket, and it didn't work, what makes them think that people will do spend more

Same for Texas. I don't begrudge them that. Lotteries are in business to make money for the state. Thay make that very clear. Now if they tried to hide that fact I would find that offensive.

Personally, I rarely play scratch offs of any price, but the fact is scratch off tics outsell online games, at least here in Texas. People like the instant gratification. I prefer the anticipation of the upcoming draw.

The Pennsylvania Lottery earlier this week launched its most expensive instant lottery ticket, a $30 scratch-off that offers a top prize of $3 million.

The game, appropriately called Three Million, is already in place at many of the places that sell instant tickets. It is the state's third $20 or more instant prize game offered at 9,100 retailers statewide.

So far, local lottery players have been slow to try the new game.
