So even if I live in Michigan, I can set up a LLC or something like that and claim my lottery winnings that way? This is very appealing to me and sounds like the only smart way to claim winnings. I would HATE for my name and face to be plastered everywhere when I win

Me too! I just want enough to start over, so to speak. Medical bills and credit card bills from when I was young and stupid to be paid off would be a good start. I never play Powerball since it went to $2 and only play MM every 2 weeks, just when I go down to get my Fantasy Five ticket. I suppose it's stupid but I keep thinking one day it will be my turn to win. That's what keeps me going, that little spark of hope.

There are several flaws with this study though i was excited at first to read it it. The biggest being that its ultimate solution is to remain anonymous. Well, for 45 out of the 50 States that's an impossibility.

I think the lottery curse thing is blown out of proportion by the media. Sadly, people like watching train wrecks. I think it's because when people see someone worse than they are, it makes them feel better about themselves, even if those watching aren't much better themselves. There have been many lottery winners over the years, but the only ones we hear about time and again are the ones like Jack Whittaker.

I completely agree with most of ur Post Goon this study didn't teach me anything new either. I already knew how to Win and how to handle the Win. One of the points the article doesn't show is that everyones' life is different. No one lives the same. I live here in the State of Maryland. My State offers Annonymity. I think it depends on how close you are to your family. If you aren't close and don't see them often, then I'm sure it can be kept secret. But probably more importantly, if you're spending money, people might guess that you've come into some cash, but they won't know exactly how much you're worth.

I'm not sure of how you can win $50,000,000.00 and keep it a secret? Unless you never plan to spend any of it. Then what would be the point in winning. I can't imagine your friends and family not getting suspicious when you suddenly quit your job, move into a mansion, start driving a fancy car, etc.

I remember a lotto winner several years ago who appeared in gossip magazines and newspapers.

He also came in contact with bad people. Didn't go well for him. He became an alcoholic and died.

The media and academic types---and 'studies' like this---focus on the high-profile but relatively few (compared to thousands of large JP winners in past 35-40 years) disaster stories.

I don't want to win hundreds of millions of dollars either. I think with 2 million net, that would be enough for me. I think too much more than that, I'd be looking over my shoulder all the time (anonymous or not)......but the apartment in Paris would remain a dream....lol. I guess I'm a little different than most LP members. I'm not really all that interested in winning multiple millions of dollars. Sure I'd take a large amount of money if I won it, but all I really want is to win enough to settle all of my debts/obligations. Pay off everybody and everything I owe money to/on and go about living my life as I always have.

Really don't think this study is all that helpful for big US jackpot winners. $250,000 - $1 million is enough to pay off student loans, credit cards, car payments etc., especially if there are no taxes to deal with, but not enough to have their names and faces plastered everywhere so they get hounded for life. Not to mention that relatives/friends wouldn't expect large handouts.

Depends on the person. I know someone who retired early, has plenty of cash and is bored because his friends still have to work. Except for cooking he has no other hobbies. Fifty million would not make him happier.

Good to see some positive views and advice on How to win the lottery happily.

If we have a disciplined life style,ie keeping our addictions under control, is very important. True happiness is never entirely found in wealth.

We would be surprised to know that some of the wealthy also experience anxiety over their fortunes. This should be an interesting topic.
