Louisiana started its first lottery game in 1991 and I was playing it at age 23. All these years later, I still play, haven't hit the big one yet, but hope to someday.

Darn. Every single year around my birthday the jackpots are HUGE...every single year. Always hoping for a birthday miracle like this one but nada...yet : ))

I'm fairly sure at the time this game started (2008) There wasn't a lump sum option on grand prize wins (Outside MM or PB) That would change very soon. But since the game didn't have the option in it's rules, he automatically gets the 20-year payoff. Good for him nonetheless

I'll be honest, I'm surprised the cash is king proponents haven't come in to harangue Mr. McNulty for not taking the lump sum. I guess we can agree, then, that there are some scenarios where the annuity is the right choice; winning when you're really young is one of those instances.

Where i live i see a array from YOUNG ADULTS 18-25 to older young adults 30s/40s.

and old seniors each day!

so many youngins, i know play it from 18 y.o. early 20s. to late 20s, late 30s.and forties,to 80!

so i think it is really just all about luck,so great job to this young man,i know he is a very happy camper

even after taxes...so nice to see this,however i would take 1 lump sum at ANY AGE,premise on life is so short,

^The majority of the people who play are middle-aged or elderly. However, I have plenty of co-workers aged 18-28 who play regularly;and have seen people my age play when I stop at the gas station. I've also seen quite a few young winners in the past year in scratch off games and state lotteries. We like money as much as anyone else, lol.

Ryan McNulty of Marshfield, Massachusetts, turned 21 and celebrated a day later by claiming a $1 million prize in the state lottery's Billion Dollar Bonanza instant game.

McNulty chose to collect in annual payments of $50,000 (before taxes) over 20 years. He told lottery officials he will use the money to buy a new car and pay some bills.
