The fact we already paid income taxes doesn't prevent states and municipalities from adding sales tax to our purchases. Income tax, SS, state, and city taxes are all deducted from the gross, but doesn't the gross become smaller after the first tax is deducted and are we not paying other taxes on an amount we no longer have

You know what really ticks me off about the lotteries and taxes? If you think about it. Everyone buying lottery tickets is buying these tickets with money that they already paid taxes on. I.E. Income tax. Then they go and spend a few bucks on the lottery. The jackpot grows. Then someone hits it. Then the flipping government goes and taxes the money that the taxes have already been paid on. Does anyone else here not see the problem with this

These games can be hacked but it takes buying many tickets to start. Track the index

number of all the tickets you buy and especially the winners. Once this is done you have

the means to hack the game. Next buy a few tickets day to day so that you can track the

index numbers and when it gets close to your predicted value then buy however many

tickets it takes to reach it. All scratchers game tickets are numbered numerically and if

your smart enough you can work out where within

Lots of ways to cheat da system! I've seen store clerk owners scratch $20 tickets, the whole roll, especially if it's a new game, all while I was paying for gas??? Think about it, if a new scratch off came out, potential to win $100K, $200K, OR ONE MILLION DOLLARS and all u get for selling it is a small percentage, wouldn't u scratch and get it all??? This kind of activity has been reported here before but it doesn't amaze me that the LP brain trust still can't figure out how people like Steve Player could have established their golden reputations without having to win a thing.

This kind of activity has been reported here before but it doesn't amaze me that the LP brain trust still can't figure out how people like Steve Player could have established their golden reputations without having to win a thing. THIEVES- they probably steel the tickets at the store level from unsuspecting people that don't sign but get their tickets checked, then use these 10%'er people to cash them in.

i know if I stole $600+ there would be a full fledged investigation. These people do it boldly over over again without worry.

If my purse was stolen in front of that many people who are aware of this (and perhaps some of these enablers even), they would probably put in some sort of effort to stop it and/or pro... [ More ]

I agree since all these people cashing these tickets are in the 30%+ tax bracket. Paying 50% leaves them only 20% of the ticket value to cover their expenses and to make a living.

People assume players like Jones bought scratch-offs, got lucky and scratched 590 winning tickets valued over $1000. I'm saying it's more likely people like Jones bought the tickets from other players for much less than the ticket was worth, because for whatever reason, they didn't want to fill out a claims form.

They were called ten percentors at race tracks when it was uncommon to see a $2 ticket pay over $600. Today on tickets valued over $2500, 50% might be on the low side.

He cashed 590 tickets each with a value over $600 and was given a W-2G for each ticket and probably bought very few of those tickets unscratched. The term ten percenters comes from race tracks where winning betters paid someone 10% of the winnings to cash tickets that required a SS number and getting a W-2G. What percentage is deducted, depends on the amount of the winnings and with some tickets, it might be 50%.

I posted in LP how people in my corner store were betting and winning big in NJ Pick3/4 regularly. After that, they stopped coming to our store. Do you think they suddenly had the urge to stop playing ?

In NY, Win4 box tickets are sold out for months at a time. What % of these sold out tickets are legitimate, 100%? I figure some folks are raking in tons of $$$ from these box tickets.

In my opinion some of the people listed are front men who are used by a larger organization and also think the take on people who are unable to cash their own winning tickets is more like fifty cents on the dollar not ten percent.

It's no different than buying tickets in that many communities. Probably more like convincing the retailers to call them if a winner wants to cash their tickets with no questions asked. My experience was with horse and dog racing tickets and finding someone to cash a sign for ticket was easy.

They are cashing in tickets from stores that were purchased miles away from where they live.

Look at how many different stores/vendors these tickets came from.

Im wondering how many tickets they are buying at one time. Im sure they are winning more than they are spending but you're lucky if you can buy one ticket and hit it big but if you spend a couple hundred on tickets you're hoping to at least break even LOL

Sounds like these guys are doing what others only dream of, making a living off the lotteries. It probably sounds better than it actually is when you consider these ten percenters are paying the real winners and their taxes too. Some might collect $20M over four years but I doubt if they cleared even 10% of that.

What the heck is wrong with some of these lottery officials?. It's bad enough, that they rip you off as it is, now they wanna butt-in on how you decide to cash-in your winning ticket. If I win a little over $600.00, I'm not going to drive all the way to the lottery office, to get that fake smile, fill out their stupid forms and get that stupid picture taken, with that almost same expression you see at all lottery websites that proclaims loudly....
