Anybody in the US can join the Missouri lottery website. Once you do they send out occasional surveys asking if you would play proposed games, which scratchers look better, etc.....

For the proposed games they also make an estimate of how much the games would pay out each year.

Not the first lottery official I've heard blame the jackpots.....makes me wonder what they would do if the game got shut down. Run around like chickens with their heads cut off? Going online is the only way to go, if the rest of the world can do it why can't the US? I wouldnt play at all if I couldn't do it online here in Sweden.

In 2014 more than 70% went to prizes. That doesn't sound like greed. Sounds like the payouts were pretty hefty.

People forget that lotteries are a business. They are not, and never have been in business to lose money. No business can lose money and survive.

The lottery's greed in conjunction with player fatigue, might just be two of a host of other factors, impacting sales. Pay more to players and they might just purchase more tickets.

Hey, I resemble, I mean resent that remark! LOL.

You are probably right about folks being tapped out.

Lotteries are trying to increase revenue by bringing out $50 scratch offs, and new draw games that cost $2 which are hard to sell if it's hard for people to drop even a dollar on a game.

Getting younger adults to incorporate lottery tickets into their purchasing habits isn't a challenge just in Missouri. In Canada, an aging player base has led to talk of creating a new national lottery specifically targeting people under the age of 35.

You notice that all the lottery ads always feature twenty-somethings having fun or people in their 30's with young families -- not a bunch of drooling codgers sittin' around the nursing home, LOL!
