Well my money does go into a Credit Union account the one that I work at secondly I never said I don't mind parting with a few dollars for the games Oklahoma has had many Powerball Hot Lotto Jackpot winners just haven't had a Mega Jackpot winner since the state got the game back in 2010. It would be nice if the state would get a jackpot game that rolled.

Perhaps, pickone4me, folks haven't been placing their ever decreasing lottery ticket monies into a savings or checking account because those haven't earned any significant interest these past 12 years. Low rates results in folks coming to a relization that their is little incentive to save money (or at least not to put much money into checking or savings accounts in this country).

Well, jjtheprince, that's because CA hadn't joined Powerball yet. Afterwards, the states with the largest lottery ticket buyers (e.g., residents, foreign travelers traveling to West or East Coast, and non-residents crossing border from nearby state that doesn't win even every three years), dominate those jackpot wins results web pages.

It seems like years back jackpot wins would go like WI IA FL MO OH TN, etc

Since you can chose whichever combination you want in any store you want, most people already knew it can be won anywhere. It's just the morons who think it's rigged because states that sell the most tickets tend to produce more winners that don't know.

That said, a store that's right off of route 17 probably sells a lot more tickets than one a mile up the road in Circleville, and the winner might be from NYC, Long Island or NJ.

if there are really people who control when and where a jackpot is won, then why did they allow the jackpot to pop at only $321 million? Why didn't they let the jackpot grow to $500 million?

They would make much more money if they did that because there would be even more lottery fever at a $500 million jackpot than a $321 million jackpot.

More lottery fever means more people forking their money over to play the lottery.

Bought one ticket on Sunday, then today on a hunch I went down to spend another two dollars. The Lottery machine was on a ten minute warning (delay), based on how folks were buying them. For a taste of this jackpot, ten minutes is a pleasant time to stand and dream.

as exciting as watching paint dry. good luck with that 75 number matrix you have to pick 5 or let a machine (most of you) pick your numbers. need a math expert to figure how much of a percentage of difficulty that has increased as a result of the increase in the matrix number 54-75 is way too prohibitive to play. stick with smaller state lottery's if you want to hit something. you really don't want or need hundreds of millions of dollars. what would you really do with it. nothing but trouble.... Nice research, Floyd. Thanks for the info. At this late in the year, it does not make sense to collect before the end of the year unless it is a pool with several winners. Given the time to set up trusts and various entities, 60 days is okay, but pushes things very close to the holidays with closed offices and people taking holiday. I'd try and collect within 30-60 days, but if whoever tax atty I hired says to wait... I'd wait.

You know what, I had no idea about this retroactive tax law, but I've been saying for a while that something like this would happen and that's why I'd never take an annuity. Any time a state is short of funds, they'll pass a law to come after lottery winners. Lottery winners and smokers are the least sympathetic groups of people to hit with a tax. I'm inclined to agree. Even though the interest rate is seriously low, safely earning $1 is still a $1 more than zero. And when the amount being invested is in the millions then that's way way way more than zero.

And I wouldn't even think of the interest earned in terms of a new BMW or Audi, I'd put the entire interest earned towards that tax bill and consider it that much less coming out of my original winnings.
