Wow, a lottery winner with a plan.

He has enough money (and apparently, the brains to manage it) to retire from work right now. However, I get the distinct feeling that we haven't heard the last from this teacher. A rich former alternative education teacher sounds like a prime candidate to lead an education reform movement, at least locally.

He found out he won on May 30 which is near the end of the school year. Waiting over two months to claim his prize certainly gave him the opportunity to finish off his school commitments while getting his financial plan in order.

I'm a little confused by the wording of this story. Did he only become a former teacher the minute he realized he was holding the winning ticket?

If that's the case, I can understand his decision to take some time off his job. Teachers are, in general, woefully underpaid in most districts, and I have not heard that Milwaukee is an exception.

I wonder if his vacation becomes more or less permanent.

If I had a dollar for every time someone won the lottery after buying a ticket when they went to purchase milk, I wouldn't need to play the lottery.

Congtats to the winner. I was playing this one a lot as the jackpot grew(which takes forever) and was slightly bummed when it was hit.

If he got $15.7 before taxes, I wonder what his take home was.

Although I try to play every multi state lottery game (MM/PB) drawing, I only buy advance draw Wisconsin MegaBucks tickets when that jackpot exceeds Illinois Lotto jackpot and also is in excess of $10 million. Looks like I will wait a year before I play that game again.

Bought winning ticket while running to the store for milk

A former high school teacher won Wisconsin's biggest Megabucks jackpot ever, thanks to a quick trip to pick up a gallon of milk.

John Rumpel, of Milwaukee, won $22.2 million from a Megabucks drawing, the Wisconsin Lottery said in a news release on Friday, marking the biggest Megabucks jackpot ever since the game began in 1992.
