WELL AT LEAST HE KEPT IT AWAY FROM HIS WIFE FOR A GOOD REASON. I HATE TO SEE THE STORIES OF PEOPLE HIDING WINS OR THE GREED THAT OFTEN FOLLOWS.

HE HAS A SUMMER HOME, SO HE WAS PROBABLY OK BEFORE THE WIN, BUT NOW HE CAN PROBABLY DO A FEW THINGS HE HADNT PLANNED ON IN RETIREMENT.

GOOD FOR HIM AND THE MRS.

lucky for him but don't understand his logic of saving money over the years to play the lottery after he retired. i would think playing it all along (every week or day) before he gets too old to enjoy it would have made more sense. it worked for him but unless he takes the lump sum he only gets 34,000 a year. sure hope he took the lump sum at his advanced age.

Just read this on Boston Herald website; his nickname is Mr. Lucky. On a side note I grew up next town over (Holliston)...when is my turn coming when I visit home??? Congratulations on your big win. Perhaps my season Mega Millions/Mega Bucks Doubler/Lucky for Life will come in and can venture onto Braintree, MA to cash in. Two uplifting lottery stories in a row...life is good.

For many years, Raymond Hazell put aside $10 to $15 from each paycheck to build a fund that he would use to play the lottery when he retired.

So he basically spent $10 to $15 from each paycheck to buy lotto tickets? Obviously he's buying tickets and not waiting to play when he retires...?

Interestingly, investing $15 a week for 30 years would yield close to $100K with the inflation-adjusted yield of stock market over the last 30 years or so.

Congratulations to Hazell for winning! 1M$ scratcher is a nice prize for a retirement bonus!

Here are my questions that I am left with: So how much of his nest egg did he have to spend before he won... and did he continue and finish spending it all after the winning ticket, or just stop and be glad

An Upton, Massachusetts, man who set aside a retirement nest egg to play the Massachusetts State Lottery won $1 million on a scratch ticket. It was good fortune that he briefly kept from his wife, the lottery said.
