Funny, big time financial gurus from Wallstreet recommend you don't follow the herd taking the lump sum or you might end up broke and it makes sense. If you don't have the financial background at the time you claim, it is silly to take the lump sum. Yep, I know, but I am looking at all the prize levels .

When PB doubled the odds for second prize they did NOT double the second prize.

The odds vs prizes vs ticket cost are better on MM the way I play the game.

I cant speak for everyone here, but for myself, the chance i see as next to impossible. so the excitement generated by the larger pots is something to enjoy. so i like to see bigger pots. sure i buy a ticket, or a share in an entry. and 1 mill 40 mill 500 mill they are all out of the realms of reality. so im along for the ride.

They know @ work that I will donate to get our new CVICU built for the kids where I work. Jennifer Lawrence, Louisville native, donated $2 million to jump start this.

Powerball should never get that high to begin win.

The only one making money is the lottery.

It would make more sense to focus on cash values, I think only one MM/PB jackpot winner in the last 3 or 4 years took the annuity. But until we can get a consensus to go along, we may as all go along with the common phrasing, so we're all talking the same language.

If you haven't heard the news...they changed the matrix for Mega Millions too. The odds are almost as insane as Powerball odds.

PB odds are 1 in 292,201,338.00 and Mega's odds are 1 in 258,890,850

Got my tickets for both PB and MM, i would be happy with either. I too, will split with my brother but also a friend, who like me would split with one another and has been playing as long as I have. We share what we would do with a win altho his lfe has changed pretty dramatically the past two years but the pact remains. My immediate family is very small and we would take care of each other.

I don't know. I have yet to decide when to jump in. Since the matrix changed and the odds skyrocketed I just have not been that excited about PB.

I have my Mega Millions tickets but don't know when I will buy PowerBall.

I have to decide whether it will be @ $400mil, $500mil, $600mil Or $750mil that I will jump in.

At this point it really isn't just the money rather it is the insane odds versus the Jackpot money.

DCF, May I ask why are you quoting the Advertised Annuity prize of $348 million? Especially to LP members.

I will end up on April 16, 2017, with $135,600,000.00 here in California. After all, taxes are paid. Of course most of it will be invested by then in CDARS, Treasury Bills, and more Jumbo CD's. Plus my home.

I will be hiring Financial Advisers, Lawyers, CPA's, and others before cashing in my ticket. Please be patient with me.

On the way back from the post office I picked up 1- cash 4 life, 1-mega, 1-lotto and 1-powerball

Then I remembered having 2 lotto tix that won $1 each, so I bought another powerball ticket.

Let's hope for the best.

I have an agreement with my brother. If either of us wins, we split half with the other. It's just the two of us and our respective families.

I won $3 last night on Lotto, which I've put into an additional Powerball ticket.

This morning I went to my normal place to cash it and get tickets, but their machine was down, so I went to another place and their's was working. I got my winning Lotto at a place I don't normally buy them(vending machine in a supermarket), so who knows what will happen this time

its also been disgused to virtual death, one could always buy a better annuity then the ones currently offered

of all the stories of failure we've seen not to mention the albeit rare story of those that took thar winning and proven themselves to be that much better at handling thar money

I agree on taking the annuity, but don't forget that the initial with-holding won't cover all your taxes. There's the remaining almost 15% you'll probably still owe.

After full federal and state taxes, I'd be looking at 2.9 mil the first year. And spending a good chunk of that on a really nice house. The vacation condo in Hawaii might have to wait until year 2.

I can understand your reasoning. I feel its a sound way to look at it. after all most people say thay would be happy with just a few mill here. you get 1 year to practice, living on the income from just 3.9 mill, ok maybe a part of the capital also.maybe after the 1st year you have 1 mill left over! spent 2.9 mill. well done. you prob made a few mistakes, have a reasonable house, a nice car. next year you prob dont need to spend $2.9 mill. by the time you get to year 5 you will prob have the han... I understand the argument for the lump sum but I'd choose ANNUITY all the way! $3,928,425 + per year (first payment) after taxes in Washington state. That's enough for living large while getting the financial education, saving you the stress and worry of being taken to the cleaners by some smart Alec lawyer or investor, if the lump sum is chosen.
