Two averages were given, 3.63 and 2.59 million. The 3.63 definitely, I'm gone as soon as I cash it in, it's just a piece of paper before you do. 2.59 yes to that too but you would need to be real careful how you spend it to make it last. 5 and up no question though.

I think most of the people who frequent this website are pretty savvy about what to do if they win a large amount. We have a plan in place for when we win: Keep quiet, interview/hire a tax attorney, financial planner and CPA, set up a trust, claim the money in that trust, have an investment strategy for 80% of the after-tax winnings to generate personal income and fund a charitable trust (and spend the other 20% on family, friends, travel, beach house, new car, or whatever) and enjoy life! I believe it depends on the amount if someone or a couple wins $5 million from the lottery (maybe $3.5 after taxes) that money is probably enough to pay bills, put food on the table and retire. Hear you loud and clear. The average Joe has no idea how broken our healthcare is. It is slightly different where I work in a PICU, many kids come in over and over again. Most of them are chronic, CP types or from a nearby convalescent center. We call them frequent flyers. Where I had my heart surgery, I heard the Dr. in the hallway refer to 'those types' as frequent offenders.

At least in the ER you get to 'treat 'em and street 'em'. As for that 18 y/o probably some entitled person, or so they perceive the world owes them something. Running up healthcare costs for non-ER visits.

I certainly would not miss the child abuse cases and can't help think Karma when those snip s go to jail.

You could certainly make it on 2-5 million and be on your way. Let the license lapse, why would you care about that? LOL.

I would be out of there faster than you could say toodles! I'm an ER nurse and for anything more than 5 mil they can have that job. There's no way that after a 7 figure pay day anyone would spend another moment holding down a drugged up psych patient or dealing with another 18 year old with a cold who can't seem to understand why the doctor didn't rush right in to see her. Good point with - being treated like that

SO many companies are SO based on JUST making money and that is all that matters. Even small companies. They treat front-line employees like dirt - no training, long hours, ect. Then they replace you if you make one mistake (and often that is due to lack of proper training or the company not giving you the tools needed to do the job they are asking)

So the people they talked to were not in these type jobs, that is clear.

One of our salespeople passed away last year after a serious illness. Guy was 67, had a bad back and was always in pain and misery. I remember a year or so back before I asked him what the heck was he doing here. Wife had a good job. He hated his job worse than I do, but he felt like he couldn't afford to quit. Well, he retired alright. The hard way.

I would for sure quit. Anyone that wouldn't quit working is likely mentally ill or bases their entire self worth on their occupation.

I can think of 1,000,000 other things I'd rather be doing than working. Believe me, with travel, spending time with family, working on hobbies, and some philanthropy, I'd never get bored and would have plenty to do. I'm only 40, so I wouldn't quit working unless I had at minimum $40 million after taxes to work with.

Of course I would quit my job as soon as the check clears my bank. I would be D-O-N-E and retired for the rest of my life if it's anything over $4 million. At $2.59M I don't know, lol... I probably would continue working a couple more decades when I get into my 50s or at least take a small portion to start a company on my own. You would have to live a regular low-mid class lifestyle to make $2.59M it work at my age.

Most people are unable to project the changes that will occur after a major windfall. Sure, Sure many of these winner's don't welcome major upheavals in their lives, right very understandable; the thing is even if they don't change their personal or professional lives, what they can't foresee is how the people who are interactive with them will change their attitude behavior towards the winners.

Not even a valid question=hell yes I'd quit. When you work in healthcare ICU setting with pediatric patients you realize how precious and short life is. It is saddening/sickening to see what some of my patients endure. Some people say you only work 3 days/week, 12 hours each. I say 'you do it, long days but the emotional part is what gets to you'.
