Good on him for seeing his shift through. This is why I never check my tickets while at work though. I know if I won a significant amount that the urge to just up and leave my job would probably be too great to resist.

I once told my employer that if I ever when I win the lottery, I will give two weeks to find a replacement. I wouldn't just quit and leave.

We'd NEVER get that 'lucky' in the good old US of A. The IRS loves to tax just about everything. My thinking is if didn't have the Federal tax, they'd get their money sooner or later with purchases or interest income; perhaps not as much though.

No tax on the jackpot so he gets the full 4 million.

Any income derived from it, interest or investments, will be subject to income tax.

Had a friend of mine who was originally from Tasmania over for dinner and drinks. Her husband went home early with their daughter and left his wife to enjoy herself as I offered to drive her home. On the ride to her house she mentioned that she was pissed and wanted a fag I was bewildered initially until she explained the Australian slang.

I agree, professional, independent financial and legal advice is vital when you win, or inherit, a large sum of money.

I also can't understand why he didn't choose to remain anonymous, as all UK lottery winnings can?

He deserves congratulations but he also deserves wise counsel. Which he can afford.

In the U.K. the winners are offered three different banks to choose from. The bankers he picks will tell him how much he will make in interest per day/week/annually.

However, I think that with all he plans on doing, now that he won, he will be back to work in a few years.

Buying a house, a car, new clothes, paying for college, trips back home, and gifts for the family will exhaust his 4 million fortune and will leave him nothing for the future.
