The lump sum payout is the cost of an annuity that would pay $25,000 per year for a fixed period of time. With compounding at today's rates (5 yr CD is 1.67%), that fixed period is about 18 years. Considering she's 87, I think the lump sum option was a good choice.

One of the floor techs @ the hospital I work in was said to have won $50K last week. I searched high and low for him as I spoke to him hours ago and he didn't tell me. Now someone explain this lottery to me. It started in Connecticut in 2009, and wasn't available outside New England for sometime and Idaho later on according to Wikpedia. So my point is she may have played the same #'s, just not on this lottery the entire time.

Personally stopped playing about a year ago in KY and Season Ticket from MA.

What is great about LFL is it is not a RNG and still drawn in Connecticut.

We've only had Lucky for Life for a couple of years. So I have to assume she's played those numbers on every applicable game. 27 years on both Powerball and Megamillions. A whole bunch of years on Wild Card ($1) and Hot Lotto ($1). And a few years on Lucky for Life ($2) and probably Weekly Grand ($2) too.

I'm not gonna do the math, but she spent a whole lot of money over the years. I bet she still came out ahead though.

It was a weekly drawing. Assuming the price was always two dollars per line and assuming she only played one line per week, she would have invested roughly $2,800 over the past 27 years. She would have earned far less if she'd parked it in the bank and unless she was a stock picking whiz, she'd have earned less in the stock market.
