This sounds like a money grab by the cops, plain and simple. It's her name on the claim form, not the drug dealer's. I bet she was on the video purchasing the ticket, otherwise they would have used the video to prove it was his. Seems to me the cops learned about the ticket somehow and saw dollar signs flashing in front of their eyes. So they made up a story that the drug dealer said it was his so they could seize it. Cops lie all the time when it suits their purposes.

I am going to get political, (sorry) does anyone disagree that we live under a different set of laws than the politicos who get literally millions of dollars, give away state secrets, get immunity, and are free to do it again??????????? How much income would one have to have to purchase a $3.00 lottery ticket ? One would assume that something was most likely purchased with drug money if it was a major purchase not a $3.00 ticket. That's just GREED by Law Enforcement and the District and State Attorney's are all involved in this criminal behavior. Someone could give a person a few buck including family or friends.

He bought a $3.00 scratch off ticket. If he has any other kind of income from employment or whatever, then it isn't mostly likely that he bought the ticket with drug money. The local police dept. must have wanted a new Expedition.

They said the boyfriend bought the ticket and she didn't dispute that at first until she realized the state could keep the money. I think the state was right.

If you lived with your brother and he bought the ticket, then I think they should take the money even if you tried to cash in the ticket. Drug money most likely bought it.

I am not siding with the drug dealer or his girlfriend but it seems cops will use any excuse to seize property or cash. Having no job and being a known drug dealer to law enforcement just made it easier for the investigators to seek forfeiture.

Was she a drug dealer or just his girlfriend? Guilt by association? Who cares if she knew he sold drugs? I don't condone that activity but think about this... You live in a house with your family, your brother is selling drugs and your not. You win a million in the lottery and the next day the cops bust into your families house and arrest your brother for drug dealing. They confiscate your lottery winnings because you could have purchased that ticket with your brothers drug money.

From what I understand from the article, he was the drug dealer not her. I don't agree with the State. What if your brother was a drug dealer and you won some money in the lottery? Could the State take it saying you could have bought the ticket using your brothers money? I'm one who thinks that the government; from time to time, oversteps its authority.
