Congratulations Mr. Kapoor. Now you should join the LP membership as others have mentioned.

I know there is a national media gal with the same name out there.

Find it ironic that when the lotteries get sky high, the news shows put some statistician on there saying you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning and other crazy scenarios. Funny though how they seem to crawl back under the rock they came from and no word from them after the big win.

Why is a Statistics Professor who should be developing and using fancy systems buying quick pick tickets? Inquiring minds want to know. This is completely counter intuitive and probably represents some kind of a paradigm shift. Ahhhhh forget it. The guy just bought a ticket and won. Let's not overthink this.

How many mathematics professors are there in the USA playing lottery games? If every professor buys a ticket one or more times a week, how many professors win how much? Put costs and wins in a table by game.

What are people expecting to read when they see an article starting with, a professor won in the lottery? I'd say, people want to know how he did it to copy him.

I'd say very high...

But Congrats, because it is not easy especially with the major jackpot games. I couldn't even begin to imagine a solution to tackle those.

Even if he never played the lottery the professor could probably tell us that it would depend on how many lottery tickets are bought by statistics professors. Just like the chances that a guy named Englebert would win the lottery.

All of my stat professors in college played the lottery for this very reason....to use it as an example.

I'm sure Nicholas will remark on all the times he didn't win when telling his class all about it.

Of course, now that he has won, those other times don't really matter. But for the rest of us they do

Story mentions Powerball. Presumably had 4 of 5 plus the powerball number while playing the power play- if power play was 2x, $50,000 prize doubles to 100K.

That is not 5/75, 5/50, 5/39 or 5/37. That is 5/35.

There is no information about the taxes over the game.

Ant by the way, it was not pick 3 or scratch cards in that case.

This professor needs to be a member on this site . Then show some of us what he does and how he did it. Yet it was $100k so probably about $70 - $85 k. Not bad.
