While many states have no state taxes on lottery wins, AZ has a 5% tax. Many states have even a higher state tax rate. NY has the highest at 8.82% plus local taxes if you live in NYC (3.876%) or Yonkers (1.323%). They and other east coast states really take their citizens to the cleaners.

HUGE STATE TAXES! Their was a post a few weeks back It was the highest Winning Lottery tax by any other State, I think was 43% or Higher!

Ugh. No. The second tier prizes rarely break a million and anything less is pathetic. In the early 90s when superlotto was the only game in Calif, I use to win $200, $100, $50 dollar prizes. Now Im lucky to make a couple of bucks playing all three games.

Some Nevadans may prefer to buy their lottery tickets in Arizona, although the trip will be longer. I believe Arizona Last Stop in White Hills, AZ is the first retailer to reached driving from Henderson.

I've traveled to California and played mega in San Diego and Stockton. Also did some fantasy in Bakersfield and the bay area. Didn't hit anything but it was nice to play and see how much more efficient it is to play in California: you can pick and play your numbers at kiosks at many stores.

If California has lots of winners: well because you can effortlessly choose your own numbers with the only discretion being how much you're willing to pay and just type into the kiosk. No handing over slip... [ More ]

A lot of people, especially Asians, believe playing the lottery at a place that has already had winners, is more advantageous. In fact, the CA lottery website lists Lucky Retailers -- those retailers that have paid out large amounts of prizes to players. So stores that have sold jackpot tickets often have long lines.

You already have to drive to the Primm Store which is kinda far out there, why not drive 20min longer and be out in 5min?

And now with this win this store is a lucky store and will see even longer lines every time.

Amen Redd55. Born and raised in CA and I cant afford to live there anymore. Only with a lottery win could I afford to move back. And not really sure I would. The one thing California has going for it is the weather. Southern California is just perfect. I do not like the Santa Ana winds tho.

Lucky, lucky winners. So many people in Vegas go to Primm to get their tickets this sure paid off for some lucky person.

My bet is that it is a Las Vegan that won the moola. That store has hit the five #'s before from a Nevadan, not sure about all six like this one before last night. It is the closest to Las Vegas. One news story showed the long lines and then drove further down the road and no lines @ all.

This mega millions took a while to get to this winning draw....now it's back at base and we are in for anot her slow and painful climb

I hope pb keeps climbing for at least 10 more draws....but I am sure TN, NY, FL, NJ and TX will quickly throw a wrench in that too

When the jackpots get high people apparently wait in line for hours. (Though they also have self serve kiosks that peop e don't realize they can use too).

It's funny, just last week I looked into the lottery places app for other stores close to the Nevada border, wondering if there is an alternative for people to queue for 4 hours.

There are more than 6 stores in Baker, just 40min from the Primm store and 1 just 20min away. I'd take that drive.

I live in CA and if I won, I'm out of here. Property prices taxes are extremely high as is state taxes. Sure you will be able to afford it but you can get 10x the amount of house in another state that you would pay to buy in CA. Also, I hate giving so much to the gov while getting little in return.

To find out that the winner of such a liberating lotto prize is from another city.

Keep trying, and your turn should eventually come up.

That's what I have to keep telling myself.

I keep having to tell myself, ok, not this week, but maybe next week.

So far though, no win. And, I really need this win, like you wouldn't believe.

It definitely doesnt matter. And no, no one has to relocate in order to claim a jackpot in any state. It's not that uncommon for people on vacation to buy a ticket in one state though living in another state (See Florida). I was just wondering how much business the store gets from Nevada.

I think it wouldn't matter. Let's say he was a Nevada citizen. He just has to get himself situated in Californy, I think by 180 days.

Maybe start out by getting hisself a yacht, docking it in a bay, furnishing it paying the slip fee, and homeboy's good to go!

And worry about the other stuff later.

I mean Californy ain't going anywhere. And likely, the winner doesn't plan to settle anywhere but in Californy.

A lottery ticket with all six winning numbers in the latest multi-state Mega Millions draw was sold just inside the California border and its owner must decide whether to receive the $188 million jackpot in 30 installments or its $113.6 million cash value, the California Lottery announced today.

The numbers drawn Friday night were 17, 37, 53, 54, and 61, with Mega Ball number 8. The Megaplier was 3.

The drawing was the 20th since the last time a ticket matching all six numbers was sold.
