On the way to the record just over a year ago it went from 356 to 528, with reported sales of $352 million. This time around it's 361 to 416 on sales of $111 million.

I'm sure they expect the 475 to be conservative, but it will be interesting to see if that finally gets to the new point at which sales really start to grow. On the upside, the smaller sales mean there's still better than an 80% chance it will roll again.

How many people won the 2nd place drawing has very little to do with it. Based on sales for the last drawing only 12% of the possible combinations were played, which is about 1 of every 8 combinations. If 1 of every 8 tickets that had the correct 5 numbers also had the correct powrball number we'd have seen 3 winners.

Another way to look at it is that if the number of 2nd place winners indicated anything we'd never see a jackpot winner when there are only 1 or 2 2nd place winners.

WHAS 11 was right. It is the 10th-largest Powerball jackpot ever. There have only been 9 Powerball jackpots larger than this one. But when I write the news stories I normally compare the jackpot to the largest jackpots of ANY game in US history, not just Powerball jackpots -- that's the difference.

75 to 100 mil at the very least sounds more likely.....

look back at the marie holmes and the billion dollar draws. It was only when the jackpot jumped by over 100 mill between draws that they started giving updates pre-draw.

These past 2 draws alone the jackpot has gone up by a few teenage million predraw with no up dates.....not frenzy level yet.
