Not only is the jackpot odds worse, but the megaplier odds is far worse too. What many players don't know is that the current megaplier is tilted towards coming up 5X much of the time (good for the player) with 2X being the least likely. With the upcoming change, the 5X megaplier will be 6 times less likely to occur (worse for the player):

Current Megaplier odds:

2X 1 in 7.5

3X 1 in 3.75

4X 1 in 5

5X 1 in 2.5

New Megaplier odds:

2X 1 in 3

3X 1 in 2.5

4X 1 in 5

I had to research some of the different articles related to the price increase. Finally one state said the same thing that Kingofearth says. Also mentioned the odds are winning the jackpot are decreasing, that is not good news.

Thank you Kingofearth. MUSL runs both of these lotteries if I'm not mistaken. MM drawn in GA and PB, though headquartered in IA, draws their numbers in Florida.

Hmmm, I refuse to think about the jackpot's momentum slowing down but, I was hoping an increase today by about $20-$30 million, annuity. Either the frenzy has slowed down or, it is still too early to consider a growth before the drawing.

Good point.

Maybe I'm still sleepy from my nap, but did MM announce if the minimum jackpot would increase? I think it will have to. $15 million starting won't justify the price increase. PB jumped to $40 million, just don't remember if it was prior to its price increase or not.

Later on Todd can run a story on how much the decrease in sales secondary to the price increase of MM...

California has a captive player pool, so to speak, since Nevada doesn't offer PB nor MM, so many CA residents will continue to play despite the doubled price, worse odds, and lack of multipliers. Even with lower sales, the doubled price will make up for much of that. At least for the California Lottery.

However, CA sales alone can't carry MM. Other lotteries, in particular, TX, NY, and FL, will dictate whether the new MM matrix and price works out or not.

Well, that's good for you and others but I live in a state where the second and lower tier prizes suck. And there are no megaplier or powerplays. So, what happens if/when sales drop in the state with 39 million people who buy the most tickets

And hitting 2nd place is 25 times more likely than winning the jackpot. And all other lower tier prizes are, at minimum, doubled with up to 5X being possible.

On the other hand, many players are focused on winning the jackpot, and care little about the lower tier prizes. SF can be beautiful, but there is NO free parking almost anywhere in the city. All, if not most of the roads are one-way, you have to drive 4-5 blocks to make a u-turn. Panhandlers just about everywhere you look. Great seafood though, especially if you love crab. Personally : nice place to visit but give me the Fremont Hills/Mission Peak area any day of the week.

Most jackpot winners are almost always 95% of the time or higher, close to a large body of water.That puts the Bay Area's chances right up there with the best of them. You heard it here first .

Coming into this weekend there were two big jackpots generating lots of excitement and ticket sales; going out there's just one and it's enormous.
