I take the lump sum and multiply by 0.604. That gives you the cash amount after you pay all the federal taxes. Also, some states cities also have the lottery withhold taxes. Check your state at usamega.com

$700 M = lump sum of $443,300,000 x 0.604 = $267,753,200

The biggest tax bracket(to my knowledge) for people earning millions is 39.6%. That 25% you refer to is the minimum mandatory that needs to be withheld right away. You fall into that 39.6 category because its considered earned income.

RCB,....I took your advice,bought 5 of em'.....took the cash option payment method, as about 99% of the jackpot winners opt for on the PB(well at least 124 out of the last 125 winners since 2008 did).

There are youtube millionaires. They provide content to youtube who can sell ads with it and they have millions of followers. But you're right. It's not worth it to someone who theoretically took home over 200 million plus cash. Producing those videos is full time work. Plus, and they must make appearances and promote products.

Yes and it also had in its favor the fact that it was going up big right after the first part of the month. Sadly that is when people receive there Social Security checks and probably quite a few of those overspent what they probably should not have. Some people on Social Security probably run low on money towards the end of the month and since we are nearing the end of the month it might affect ticket sales somewhat.

Your post made me realize the one thing that the $1.6 billion dollar jackpot had that this one does not and that is a major holiday as in the New Year!

We went straight through Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with no Jackpot win...

Last year when the record was set ticket sales for the 950 mill JP and the record breaking JP totalled 2.15 billion dollars. Some people went way way overboard spending money and some may still be in debt because of it. Also many others may have said never again am i going to do this again. Maybe enough people were so distracted by the eclipse that they haven't noticed the giant jackpot yet and sales will really jump later today. Sales have been on a decline for some time now. It was raised to 650 million after no one hit Saturday night. Alnost 48 hours later it has not been raised yet.
