That's what I am doing. I moved from Virginia (a ball state) to California (a RNG state). I would play the lottery periodically in Virginia. I will not play the lottery in California unless and until they replace their RNGs with balls.

Tipton's excuse isn't even original. The cyber terrorist in Live Free or Die Hard circa 2007 literally made the same comment. He said he warned the government that a security breach was possible due to a weak spot he found in the codes and no one listened to him, so he decided to use the flaw to wreak havoc and make some money. No one regurgitating commentary from the Die Hard franchise can be all that brilliant. He saw an opportunity and he took it. That's all.

August 30, 2004 The Lottery goes from using balls for the drawings to using a Random Number Generator (RNG).

BOYCOTT THE RNG STATES. Quit letting the states that use RNGS screw you. It is clear they pick numbers no one has played to insure low payouts and make the lottery more money. Refuse to play and the game will CHANGE

There's been a question about the Combinatorial Index.

The combinatorial index is the sequence number for a set of combinations arranged in order from the lowest numbered set of combinations to the highest set of numbers.

As an example, in a Pick 6 of 49 Numbers lottery matrix, the first Combinatorial Index 1 is combination 01 02 03 04 05 06; the last Combinatorial Index 13,983,816 is combination 44 45 46 47 48 49.

Privatization of lottery operations is increasingly a concern. Even for lotteries that aren't fully privatized, as vendors take on more and more responsibilities. For example for the PA Lottery, despite it still being government managed, it seems officials have little control with vendors running much of the day to day operations.

I've said this years ago and will continue too. Since moving to a computerized system they the state and the for profit company running it can pick the least drawn number for any given game. Don't believe me? Check your state's winners per day compared to computer drawings and it's winner list. The goal is to raise money for profit. With less winners more money. They then turn around and brag about the amount they drawn it for the yr and say they given sooooo much to Education and other programs... [ More ]

This includes both Natural Ball and Computer Generated numbers.

Bold highlighted are the repeats that are consecutive, meaning there are no other repeats occurring between them.

Yep. He spotted the flaw, while he was trying to scam the system. If they had looked into it, maybe he would have deleted his program and not done it. But they didn't and he did. And as they say, the rest is history.

Humphrey Bogart was in San Quentin the movie, back in 1937.Is that the movie you describing G? The other thing, in paragraph 7 of this article: Tipton had already started installing his rigged programming code when he first spotted the random-number flaw. He was there first! So by his account, this conscientious programmer was being honest, and being dishonest at the same time.

your signature line says everything we need to know about the RNG system and its flaw....

It was done right out in the open. Tipton Told people..and then proceeded to reap the rewards from this snafu.

I've little regard for his madness as most folks have integrity in their field of work. He exploited it.

I'm not against RNG draws....its a good concept in theory. Its the human factor often that can make or break it...

He told them about the glitch, they didn't care, and he knew at that point they were not going to investigate it. So then it was game on.

Kind of reminds me of that scene in the movie San Quinton. Clint Eastwood wanted to take something from the shop he was working in back to his cell. He showed it to the guard and asked can I take this back to my cell? The guard said no and took it. Meanwhile he had a second one hidden in the heel of his shoe.

It is time to contact all state lotteries that use RNG and INFORM THEM OF A NATION WIDE BOYCOTT OF ALL STATES THAT USE THEM. TO GET THEIR ATTENTION .......GET IN THEIR BILLFOLD.. PA Treasure Hunt (5/30 game: 1 in 142,506) had duplicate numbers drawn too within a week of each other. 02 05 08 11 12 on both Monday Nov-24-2014 and Sunday Nov-30-2014. Mentioned this previously recently, and now seeing a 2nd article regarding RNG draw dups, I wonder even more about PA Lottery RNGs. Do they use machines running similar RNG programming?

Great article. Seems like a lot of lottery officials are dumbfounded as to how to fix the problem when it is pretty obvious. Get rid of RNG's! Geez! When the guy who manipulated the system tells you that the system is broken, it doesn't take a konk on the head with a sledgehammer to figure it out.

Computerized drawings can easily be manipulated. In the article it was stated by Northrup, I don't know the answer why they are so dedicated to computerized drawings. It might just be because they are easier. This is not why there is so much dedication to computerized drawings. The focus seems to have always been on the cheater who uses these compromised numbers to select winning numbers.
