Too bad they couldn't have a raffle with this money and state kicking in another million so there would be two top prizes of $1 million each. Texas residents won't see a penny of this windfall.

Darn!! The state of Texas will get to pocket $1,000,000 of the players' money! I'll bet that breaks their heart. That money should go back into the jackpot.

My Season Tickets-subscription service winnings have never been taxed; they are never that much. I remember Governor Patrick changed the rules to I believe anything over $600 is taxed. Never happened to me yet and don't feel like looking up Massachusetts tax laws. I understand that winnings are reported to the IRS over $60 too, but are not taxed until you go over $1199.

And aren't subscriptions to the lotto, liable for taxes, or recorded for even the smallest win?

I got that tip, right from here, on lotterypost.com, a couple years ago.

I certainly won't gripe, should the unthinkable happen, and I actually win a big prize,

owing more money in taxes, than ever.

But once I got that tip from here, it completely changed the way I felt about lotto subscription services.

If no one comes forward before the sun sets, and they find out later that they misses out on major cash: there is going to be lots of crying in the rain.No trip to Tahiti for the girlfriend, the kids won't be visiting Disneyworld became you low of funds. Oh the horror.

We had something similar happen here in Carolina with the Cash 5 a few years back .....I was told when asked about it that they are not allowed to pull the store tape b/c of some privacy issue's.The ticket was bought at a sheetz store here but they could not pull camera's and put the winner(s) on TV to alert them of the win. However much to my amazement Sheetz put a big banner up in that particular store across the front of the wall to have people check their tickets and the date it was bought a... [ More ]

Bleudog101, Remember Marvin Mae Acosta who won one-third of the record PowerBall jackpot of $1.6 billion dollars. They chose minimal publicity. No celebrity photo, No media availability. They moved out of their Chino, CA home the day before claiming their prize.

I do remember that winner who covered his face with the cardboard check. He claimed on April 1, 2015. He wore a shirt with the words, The Luck of the Jedi I have . The winning ticket worth $425 million was purchased in Milpitas, CA.

I believe that the City of Austin, TX is one of the places that a winner who lives anywhere else in Texas must visit and claim their prize there.

In January 2018 Texas gave a winner of $1,000,000.00 or more the right to select anonymity for the first year after claiming.

I am a Californian so I might be wrong here.

On a different track of thought, a lottery ticket must be thought as a small piece of paper that could be worth millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions, billion... [ More ]

Yes, it would be, Mr. Bleudog101.

I sure would hate for the winner to lose out on their win, with just a day to go, before the ticket expires.

But, if it does go back to the state, hopefully it'll be used to improve the kids' school lunches.

(unless the cattle rustlers get to the cattle first)

Me? I'm considerably far away from Texas.

I've driven through there a couple times, though.

The Texas Lottery is searching for a Mega Millions winner who has only one day left to claim a $1 million prize.

Texas Lottery officials said the ticket, which matched winning numbers 16, 22, 40, 41, and 59, but not the Mega Ball 8, in the Dec. 1, 2017, drawing, will expire at 5 p.m. CDT Wednesday.

The ticket was purchased from Valero Corner Store #1307 in Austin, officials said.
