Australia goes one better in giving winners the option of anonymity. Win-win. I remember only one person who came forward to announce she won. I think it was $15million. Everybody I talked to said she was an idiot for doing so. No idea what happened to her after, whether she was swamped by long-lost relatives or dodgy salespeople but I doubt she was left alone. Some people love the attention, I guess.

The point most people are missing is the fact this happened in Nova Scotia where laws are much different than in the U.S. And from what I read, it's not exactly a country or providence run lottery. Both names were on the ticket, Bernice Curley, chair of the Margaree Forks Chase the Ace committee checked with the province's alcohol and gaming division, and gave them both check for an equal amount.

I just thought about this. What if the nephew promised his friends some winnings too! Something isn't right about this and with if they had any agreement to this.

Luck is still on MacInnis with $350,000. I did not know Australia, Canada and United Kingdom did not tax their lotto winners. America should be ashame of itself.

Correct, Lottery winners in Canada, AND EUROPE, areNOT taxed on their lottery winnings. That's how it should be globally..... makes me sick what goes on in America with Lottery winnings and taxes. You pay for a lottery ticket in the US, which about half already goes to the state on just the sale of tickets... then you are sucked dry another approximately 50% after you win!!! WTF???!!! That's like a net 75% loss for lottery winners when you combine the amount taken from sales and the amount taken... [ More ]

l think Tyrone came around to the fact that $350K is more than he could ever get in a handout. There is enough rubles here, to payoff his university bill still have walking around money. Some guys just step in it.

A family dispute over a $1.2 million lottery prize won in July was settled Monday after a five-hour settlement conference.

In July, Barbara Reddick of Guysborough and her nephew, Tyrone MacInnis of Glace Bay were announced as the winners of the $1.2 million prize in the Chase the Ace lottery held in Margaree Forks.

Immediately following the presentation, Reddick served verbal notice to her nephew that she was taking him to court to claim the full prize. They each received $611,319.50.
