The Wire Act (placing of interstate bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest) passed in 1961 was aimed at organized crime. At that time there was no Internet or any legal gambling outside of Nevada. In 2011 the Justice Department limited the scope of the Act to interstate sports wagering. In other words a person physically in NY couldn't place a bet on the Yankees using an Internet Nevada sports book, but they could legally gamble within state borders.

Casino mogul Adelson is dead set against this and has said so. Also donated many millions to the controlling party so this was bound to happen. He looks awful with his cancer, a little niceness in his final years wouldn't hurt him.

Not naming his casinos in Las Vegas, but I won't frequent them.

Big changes could be on the horizon for the gaming industry if the January reinterpretation of the federal Wire Act becomes a U.S. Justice Department mandate.
