I seriously doubt the majority of their constituents want a lottery or they would have created one years ago. The majority of KY legislators want sports betting, but it never came out of committee much less a vote. If Alabama really wants a lottery, they need to do a better job of convincing all the voters the profits will be well spent.

...Alabama Constitution prohibits lotteries...where have we heard that before? Nevada, where else!

If this goes through and Mississippi's comes on line by the end of the year or thereabouts that will be all the Bible belt 'covered'.

Politicians realize their residents will travel to another state to play lotteries and want a piece of the pie. Not to mention it appears their constituents WANT a lottery. A no brainer there.

Alabama State Sen. Jim McClendon of Springville announced this morning he is introducing legislation to set up an Alabama lottery.

The people of Alabama have convinced me, the people in my district, that they would like to be able to buy a lottery ticket without having to drive to another state, McClendon said. They'd like to be able to buy a lottery ticket just like folks in 45 states across our nation can do.

McClendon is a Republican who sponsored lottery legislation in 2016.
