I can't see anything positive about going public, but there are several potentially negative consequences to going public. People might like to media attention, until they get it. Remember, once you go public, you can't change your mind. You will have no say or control over how often your story is reprinted, years into the future.

Rich or poor ,opinions are what they are. Being rich doesn't immune you nor being poor. It's the same.

A short illness took Colin Weir. The Weir's must have had the best of medical care. I am relieved that he did not suffer.

The Weirs were responsible and generous with their winnings. They enjoyed their new life with the family.

Wives take note that it is usually the husband that passes on before you do.

One aspect of going public that people don't consider, is that once indentified, your are a public person. From then on, the media will report your activities. Also, whenever there is a lottery jackpot in the news, the media will reprint your story. You will not have any say, or control over this. Maintaining anonymity is the way to go.

thoughts and prayer for this family cause i know how y'all feel/if this money could have save his life it really don t matter at this point but know god is with y'all prays but his winning is what he had wanted i wish the same for my family one that when am gone they will be living back here on earth in peace to never wanting/for nothingknow that he is at peace

Colin Weir, winner of the 161 million EuroMillions jackpot in what was Europe's biggest lottery prize, has died at the age of 71 after a short illness. At the time, the jackpot was worth $260.5 million in US dollars.

Weir and his then wife, Chris, from Largs in North Ayrshire, claimed the entire EuroMillions jackpot 161,653,000 in the summer of 2011.

A spokeswoman for Weir's lawyers said, It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Colin Weir early today after a short illness.... [ More ]
