The $30 tickets should be at least 1.5-3% winnings. I know the lottery makes a fortune, but come on now. That shouldn't be luck, at least give a percentage out for those amts on the tickets. WTG for a $4 million winner. Remain anonymous, cool, if they play it smart they will get a trust fund, however, that is up to the person.

Is it normal for states to redact a scratch-off ticket number? I was told it's for security purposes. I'm curious to know if higher or lower tickets have the big winners.

Bleudog101, Older winners may not have the time left to enjoy all of the annuity. If a winner dies too soon after winning then there is the tax burden placed on the beneficiaries.

Taxes may increase in the future.

We do not hear about past winners investing the lump sum. There is Brad Duke who has done that. The media wants a, If it bleeds it leads story. Michael Carrol in the UK is well known for all the media attention he generated. Michael was 19 years old and blew through ten milli... [ More ]

It's all a matter of perspective. When I was younger always wanted annual payments. Now older and still an investor, it makes much more sense in many ways to take the lump sum. Just show me the money

I can't see why no one want to take the annual installments instead of the lump sum. The installments can be better managed that the lump sum amount.

One of them almost fainted

A 30-year-old Michigan resident nearly fainted after discovering that he won not $1,000, but $4 million from a $30 instant scratch-off game.

When I scratched the ticket, I thought I had a $1,000 winner because I got a slip that said to contact the Lottery, the lucky winner said. As I looked closer, I saw the '4MIL' symbol, and I almost passed out.
