I agree, taxes take a chunk out of winnings, but, this is money the winners didn't have before. So, I congratulation them, anyway.

Winning the 2nd prize without the multiplier won't make you a millionaire as Federal and state and local taxes will take away hundreds of thousands of dollars...In NYC after all taxes without the multiplier 2nd prize comes to something like $671K

and not to forget the another 12-13 percent of federal taxes due in April of the following year
